Penalties and General Feedback

I'm genuinely curious as to why you guys don't actually fix known issues within your game, such as boarding being called when you body check someone remotely close to the boards, regardless of the direction of the hit or their relative position when contacting the boards?

Also, in Be A Pro mode, why is every boarding call made a 5 minute major and a 10 minute misconduct?

In addition to these things, why not open up all the packs and sets for the previous year's game after about 6 months into the current season's game?  Also, why not open up all packs for purchase at a highly discounted price for the previous year's game?  Why not continue to feed in players and sets and what not into the previous year's version of the game?  At this point, it has to be essentially free money for you guys, so why not keep it going?

You don't make any significant differences to the crowd or the rules, you basically update the AI and mess with the controllers a little every year for tweaks, so you can't tell me that you don't have the ability to have like Dave from R&D keep a port open online for the previous year's game...  Let it run at a lower cost for everyone until the end of the offseason beyond current season's game.

You guys really need to get someone in there who cares about hockey and the people that play these games.  I've been playing the EA brand since the inception of the game, and I am feeling more and more like you guys don't care anymore...

    Hi there, @Thanx4AllDaFish

If you're playing NHL 25, please use those forums. You can find them here.

Thank you for all the feedback. It's very much appreciated!

If you can get some video of the issue with boarding you're seeing, we'll review it.

What rules do you want to see changes to?

As far as year to year changes, there's normally a lot more than AI and controller changes. Controller changes rarely happen. They did in 24, but that was the first time in more than 15 years. Which the exception of NHL 23, there are normally many changes that go into each year's game so I'm not sure why you feel we only modify the AI and controllers. If you have any details to add, please do. That would help understand why you feel this way.

The team here greatly cares about hockey. There is a huge amount of passion for the sport here. Can you tell me what else makes you feel like that's not on display?

  • I'm not on NHL 25.  I'm playing NHL 24.  Sorry, had to edit.  Accidentally submitted too soon.  I definitely do have some video of boarding calls that I can share, and I'll get a few more screenshots as well.

The controller comment was more about a constant tweak (which wasn't really a complaint), not an overhauling of controls.

The biggest change I'd like you guys to make is to stop leaving the players from the previous season games out to dry, as I mentioned in my previous comment.  Allow for discounted packs and open up all the challenges after the season ends.  Allow your players the opportunity to build the team they want even after the season ends.

I loved the thing you guys did with sets, mostly, this year, except the TOTY sets and cards were impossible to get and then disappeared from possibility.

As far as gameplay, how about making it so that the puck isn't more likely to find an opposing NPC player than one you can control?  How about not having the puck be able to be hacked from you when a NPC player is behind you and you have the puck out on your stick?  How about forcing the symbol passing controls to pass at least towards the player that you are pressing the symbol for?

How about evening out penalties so that they are called equally against both teams NPC players?  It got so bad for me in 2024 that my team would get called for 5-7 penalties per game and the NPC team would get none with the penalties on the NPC  team turned up to max and my team turned almost off.

I can't always afford the new game, which is why I'm an EA Plus subscriber, but, by the time you offer the game to EA Plus subscribers, that doesn't leave a whole lot of time to build out and the cost is exceptional to do so.

Why not just create a system that updates the previous 2 releases of the game but create a store that discounts the packs for older versions of the game?

It's the little things that make it feel like your group is more concerned with grabbing more money than improving the experience for the players you have.  Maintaining content for the previous game, at the least, seems like an easy way to make players happy and keep people playing your games.

    @Thanx4AllDaFish

    Thanks for clarifying.

The puck is likely to find the player that's in the best position to pick it up. This is also dependent on their attribute ratings. I would need to see video of the other issues with passing and hacking that you're talking about. Which, is kind of moot since there are no more updates for NHL 24 coming.

We're aware of the issue with NPC penalties. I believe it's better in 25. I don't play offline modes though so it's not something I have personal experience with.

I understand the frustration with the previous game not receiving any attention once the new one is out. The team shifts their focus to where the vast majority of the playerbase goes. Which, is the current game. It would probably spread the team pretty thin maintaining the previous game, updating the current game and working on the next game. Hopefully, we can do this at some point in the future though.
