Ranking system for Online Vs.
I just played someone who was ranked at 38 for online vs play, and their record is 56-87-22 (W-L-OTL). I am ranked at 32 with 30-14-4 (W-L-OTL). How in the world is someone with that record even ranked at that level? This does not seem fair what so ever. The advantage given to this player because of rank was what cost me the game by one goal. I dominated offense and shut them down on defense, but one crap shot goes into my net and I have to work for all of my goals. I have been playing EA NHL series for a very, very long time now, probably 11 plus years, I am not some noob who just thought to pick up a copy for my own enjoyment. I have been to more nhl games than probably most of everyone who works in EA NHL development. Someone please explain the logic of why someone who has way more losses than wins gets to have the rank of 38 when they should be in practice mode.....
Are you sure you weren't just looking at the Monthly stats instead of the All-Time stats? Also, if he has 50+ wins to your 30+, he may have accumulated more points (which is how the leaderboards operate). Winning games with a lower ranked team gives you more points than winning a game with a top team. Also, beating players that are ranked higher than you gives you more points as well. By the same token, if you lose to someone ranked higher than you are, you don't lose any many points as you would when you lose to someone ranked lower than you are. This is why the players in the top 100 RARELY accept challenges from anyone outside the top 100. They don't want to risk losing to someone who could be using a 2nd account to try to knock off the top guys and they also don't want to risk losing 1-0 or 2-1 to someone when they dominate a game.
Basically, that guy probably played against tougher competition than you. The NHL leaderboards are geared towards winning games vs better opponents and having winning streaks. Start a winning streak with Buffalo or Carolina. See how fast you climb the leaderboards. Hope that helps.
