Re: NHL 14 Android Companion App

+1.

Would it at least be possible to get a reply from EA on this? I'm a Software Developer by trade, so I understand the difficulties that come with developing software like this, and that you guys can't just put together an Android version just because we asked you to.

But at the same time, you're alienating a big chunk of your fan base by not having an Android version of this app.

At the very least, what's the likelihood of the iPhone app being extended to iOS 5 users? Because I've got an old first-gen iPad  that I was using last year for the NHL 13 app, despite the absence of an Android version. This year, I can't even do that, because the NHL 14 app requires iOS 6. I really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new iDevice (especially when I'm not a fan of Apple, and just bought a new Android tablet) just so I can use the GM Connected app.

Would it not be more effective to have a web-based interface for us to connect with our leagues, rather than just an iOS app? That way, you don't need a specific device, and users can manage their teams from any kind of device, whether it's a laptop, iPhone, iPad, Nexus 7, whatever.

Hell, I'll even go as far as saying this...make me sign a non-disclosure agreement, a temporary contract, or whatever. If I had access to EA's servers, I'd write a web interface for you for FREE, just for the benefit of every NHL gamer that isn't an iSheep.

Unfortunately the NHL 14 companion app is only available on iOS. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As an Android user myself, I share your feelings towards the lack of an Android app.

@stealth022: it's a good idea, but at this point of development, it's unlikely to happen. I'll try to see if I can get your suggestion some air time, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. 🙂

Fixing an android app shouldn't take more than a week at the most for a company of EA's size.

However, although I have an android phone, I also own an iPad so I'm good. ^_^

@eafrancois: Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I just sent you a PM actually, just to talk about it a little further. If you could give it a read, and let me know what your thoughts are, I'd appreciate it. 🙂

  • You guys gave that same crappy excuse last year. Like, almost the exact same excuse.

Said it was only out for iOS and that would you toss in the suggestion to make it happen for next year. I guess like everything else EA does, that idea was thrown out the "Good idea window"

Nice to see that EA hates both Sony and Android users.

This is completely brutal. I literally learned how to do apps in a week after building my sisters company website, then tok 2 weeks by myself to port a rather large app from ios into android. thats ME ALONE in 2 weeks of an app of comparable complexity to the EA NHL app... youre telling me the entire company of EA either cant or just wont do it? Its reasons like this EA get's hated on so much by the community - You seem to just not care at all about what the users want and go down your own path. Look! New quickdekes! Cool... but the ai still acts like an infant with its first stick. Hey check it out, an app! But only for people who prefer iphone.

  • You kind of just reiterated what he said, you didn't answer the question at all. Maybe we need to ask again... WHY IS THERE NO ANDROID APP? Not will there be, not can we have one, but simple why were we denied it.
  • They made a Fifa 14 Ultimate team companion app for android.... Obviously someone somewhere said "Why bother for NHL?".. Either that or apple paid them to only release it for the iPhone.

  • He didn't give honesty? Cause he didn't even answer the question. The question was why, he simply stated he was sympathetic cause he's got a android phone as well.

    That's not solving this thread.

    Hi @eafrancois,

So has the post made by @stealth022 got any airtime? I would love to hear an update on this before this thread is abandoned for another year...Thanks

  • I agree with you xxsoulless. for me, FIFA iOS and Android is on the same frame and NHL iOS should be the same for android, so i don't know why we don't have a companion for Android after 2 years on iOS (ok, one year, but it's gonna 2 next year since EA won't do anything i guess)...

but as you say, maybe Apple paid for having a app only on iOS for a few year or since companion is free, EA don't wan't to spend money for Android.

I'm a developper on PC and mobile and i have a good idea of how it's working for iOS companion so i don't think it's gonna be one year developpement for EA for Android !

I play NHL since 1994 i think (on PC and now PS3) and i always consider EA for good games but sometime, i have the feeling that they don't care about us and some requests...

Hasn't cross-platform app development gotten remarkably easier in recent years?  (at least emulating/testing device compatability)
...Or do they not use Adobe?

Apple doesn't make phones big enough, even for apps like this.
If it's a choice, choose the guys that make big screens.

Let's see how it runs on my 2nd Generation iPod touch  :catfrustrated:

No, the soloution is not this answer, but maybe the question is what kind of dollars is involved in the deal with Apple.

    It should be more.

Alienating such a faithful customer Base is not good in this Long going franchise. It is not a good business decision long term and will lower profit, (in in-game purchases alone).
Get rid of the guy who made the call and make amends.

Then this issue is solved for everyone.

That aswer ain't good enough at all ... Since most of the gamers don't got an Iphone or Ipad you leave out almost all of your

players and we are the game, Without us you wont be able to keep your jobs so ... yeah you should fix an app its so freaking easy!

I dunno why I am bothering to type this as EA could care less about consumer opinion but I agree with many of the things said here.

Most importantly Android market share outweighs that of iOS. In addition, porting this app to Android would literally take less than a day from a few developers at EA with half a brain. They have tons of apps available for both OSs, they know how the app world works and have people who could easily do it. The blatant disregard for a Android version of the NHL 14 companion app is just another slap in the face of their consumer as they realize they are the only ones producing an NHL game, they will continue to treat the consumer like trash, they have us trapped, unfortunately. The best thing we can all do is not support HUT.
