Re: NHL 16 Online mode Frame Rate (FPS) bad , input lag, offline good (PS4)

Hi again, I found something. The is a bit better if you play over wifi. I was trying all kind of things thinking its on my end, but no! The freaking game is optimized for wifi play, which really suck. I can see now that 3 ot 4 games out of 10 are playable when I had wifi instead of wired. But seriously; Wifi introduce all other kind of flickers issues. So EA, please fix our wired connexion!!!

So I think that the rest of the 6-7 games out of 10 are people that I play against on wired. You clearly see that people worry about lag and they are wired to ensure faster respond time (ms).

Anyways, where we feel the problem is, its EA ignoring all the posts about this issue and no reply.. not even a little .. oh we are investigating.. come on EA..

Im actually having framerate issues even offline. The crowd is jerky with its movements, with serious lag on replays. The players are somewhat better, but it is too distracting.
  • Don't confuse frame rate with lag. If you play games like Call of Duty, watch the kill cams. This is (in my opinion) the best way to know if frame rate is an issue with your TV. Go online and play multiplayer, when you get killed look at the kill cam to see if your opponent is "seeing" you before you see them. Usually, coming around corners and alike this is apparent. I realized I had a frame rate issue with my xbox 360 and flat screen TV playing Blacks Ops 2. I'm on average a K/D of 3:1. I couldn't figure out why I kept losing the one-on-one battles until I started studying the kill cams and realize they were reacting a split second faster before I was. At that point I knew the Frame Rate was an issue.

Nobody is confusing the lag and frame rate.  These are two issues coming from the slow online experience from this current year EA NHL 16.

    -  Input lag in online mode ; when the game has a lower frame rate, the game is slow and input lag is visible

    -  Inout lag in offline mode, when the game has higher frame rate per second, the game is fast and no input lag is visible.

    - low frane rate is due to a bad optimization of the network gameplay module or GPU rendering issue causing the PS4 to lag while playing online this game mode.

    - when online game is low frame rate, you can see input lag and slow movement from the time you pushed a button and when you see the action onscreen.

Nothing to do with LCD as input lag and frame rate are fine in NHL 15 pr NHL 14.

The game is just slow online.  If your brain can handle slower gameplay, mine can't.  I have paid for a comparable or better experience than last year and it's worst and no patch yet.  This is the Apple way where it's silence but everybody is mad at them because it's slow.

I have two PS4.  Both does the same slow gameplay

I have try multiple Internet connexions(wired), all the same slow gameplay

I have contacted friends with PS4 and Nhl 16,  all the same slow gameplay (even in same room)

i have seem exceptions yes.  Few games that had descent speed. It's about 5% of the games.  That 95% of the game that are slow.  Thst is what I have paid for, a game that I can't play like I would like to.

Maybe less time on mascott and more time on fixing the graphics to improve back Online game mode,  Just a word to say that Killer Instinct on Xbox one has about 90fps and you van never tell you are online or not,  why this isn't possible with NHL 16? Please EA look at the GPU fps while online and fix this pls

I have analysed more and found the problem. It, s a BGP issue. Sometimes the path the PS4 is using to get to EA server is different. Its hit or miss. One day the best path is one route and the other day it's another one. What EA needa is more proxies. It seems to be affecting most users from North Canada/Us Easr coast. I went in Cancun Mexico and brought my ps4 and shared my LTE connexion and never had a lag issue playing about 15 games. I traceroute and I was getting bout 45ms to ea servera. From Calgary I am getting about about 85ms and its *, sometimes its 35ms and its perfect. When in Toronro, same *, when in Montreal same *. Went to vegaa (yes I travelled alot) and its was perfect. The problem is the BGP route that your provider use to talk to.other providers. Sometimes its more direct (less latencies) and sometimes is * (more.latencies). Bwcause the majority of people playing nhl are in Canada, it makes no sense we go to California's EA servers. The best way for them to fix this is to give a mode for peer to peer. If the ping between you and your friend is 25ms to 50ms it should be perfect. The problem is one going to EA server at 80ms to 120ms and the other end user going the samw respond time.. the mix is 240ms.. a slow game. BGP is dynamic routing, it uses a different for multiple diferent reasons to get to destination. If servers for east user were in Toronto, mtl users would be fine and the providers will just peer into their servers. Easy hey? Yes it is.. they have to invest in a good network guy and pay for server farms closer to their users that pays lot of money to play online.

This makes a lot of sense.  I live in NY and have had intermittent game play issues with HUT. Some games are good, some are virtually unplayable.  I also noticed that the latest tuner made it even worse. For those that say this is an input lag issue between console and display, i switched my ps4 from my Samsung tv to a BENQ gaming monitor. There was some improvement but not as much as i was hoping for.  C'mon EA - fix the game!

Its important not to confuse people here.  If you have LCD input problem, go to your TV manufactue website and start a thread there.  If you have LCD lag, it will be with and in all your games.

Here is about issues with EA's network infrastructure where sometimes, the games are slow.  The reason has been explained earlier and hasnt changed yet.  Until EA put proxys in East Canada/North of America, where majority of NHL players are, it will be hit or miss depending on the BGP route your isp are using.  One route could be faster to ea's server and another one could be better.

The only accepted solution will be where EA reply they added proxy server in Toronto Internet Exchange and/or Montreal/New York.  Until there, east users will suffer.

I know who they can contract if they want to make this work properply for thousands of users
