Re: nhl20

You select your grip with the right stick. Either forehand or backhand. Which you want to use depends on how you choose to counter your opponent's grip.

  • thanks, thought that , just wanted to confirm, worked perfectly last night only time it rocked was when i had a right handed player in the face off. when i have a left hander in and pull down to the right is my only move at this point it worked perfectly last night, not sure why as i did nothing different and used my old controller.  What part of the world are you in? I am in New Zealand ,

Are you always taking faceoffs the same way? Meaning, regardless of you and your opponent's grip, are you always aiming the same way and trying to win faceoffs in the same manner?

    I'm in the US.

  • yes, when i stumbled on that move (using a left hander ) and it worked i stuck with it as it stopped the rocking action and set my stick, i need to try the other side with my with the right hander.

Thanks, originally i am from Edmonton

The best way to win faceoffs is to learn the counters. If you just do the same thing every time, it's very predictable. If someone knows the counter, they'll be able to win the majority of the faceoffs. You should only be getting that rocking action when you're aiming higher or lower than 3:00 or 6:00 on the right stick.

  • wow, i hope that solves it because last night is was perfect, some nights that darn thing wont set, that is probably why,

thanks very much for your interest and time

You're welcome! In the end, use whatever works best for you. If you're not having trouble winning faceoffs, no need to change. Just keep it in mind if you start facing some opponents that know how to counter you well.

  • thanks, i learn slowly. i have been playing "ice hockey games " since Atari, then Intellivision, Nintendo, PS1 through to PS4, the graphics pretty much from block men to the fantastic product we have today. The skill stick for me is awesome i slowly get my head around the coordination needed to complete at a high level on NHL20.

Faceoffs are a work in progress and i thing the whole 3 and 6 a clock angle explains why some games i have no issues and other that days i want to throw the controller.

I always figured it had to be my mechanics, will give that a go and thanks again

There are some great faceoff tutorial videos on YouTube. You might want to check them out.

Wow. Intellivision Hockey. I had so much fun with it when I was a kid. It was a big step up from Atari 2600. I couldn't imagine playing on those controllers now though. Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on Nintendo bring back some very fond memories of playing with friends as well.

  • that's right blades of steel, i  remember the music when they came on the ice, doing better with faceoffs and i will look for the videos.

thought of something else if i may, i recently figured out how to call a time out but don't know how to pull the goalie when i don't have a time out. Which button do i push?

You can see the controls for that in the controller settings. Look at the Goalie Controls and it'll be the first one in the upper left.

  • so between faceoffs you have to go to the main menu, settings, edit, goalie etc? i thought their may be a way to do that with out doing all that as i did not think i would have enough time before the puck was dropped?

No. I was just trying to show you where you can find those controls. This way you know where to check in case I'm not around to answer 🙂  If you're on Xbox, It's LB and the View button. On PS4/5, I believe it's L1 and hitting the touch pad.

  • awesome, these tidbits of info is helping big time, so are you a volunteer or work for EA.?

  • awesome , when playing someone how do you see their ranking? Before the game after the game?

Are you talking about HUT? If so, there isn't a way to see their rank before a game. You can view recent games for HUT Champions and Competitive Seasons in the stats section, but can't see the rank for Rivals matches.

I don't think you can see their rating before the game, but go to Recent Games in the Online Versus menu and you'll see your recent opponents. Select the player you want to see more information on and hit the A/X button on your controller.
