Re: Will NHL 21 Come Out For PC?

@EA_Aljo Why not try to release it at least once every few years? I agree the interest probably isn’t there for an annual release but the fact that these threads pop up every few months speaks to a dedicated continued interest in revitalization of the franchise on PC.

You guys haven’t released a hockey title to PC in like a decade. There would be more interest if you put the time into marketing it. You are studying a feedback loop where interest doesn’t exist because you don’t foster it, and you don’t foster it because you don’t think it exists. Fans aren’t going to be talking about this often when you have ignored PC gamers who like the NHL for a decade. They’ve just given up so you’re not hearing from them. I have looked every year for an NHL game on PC and then I move on without protest. This is the first and probably last time I will reach out to you. It’s not that I don’t care but it seems ridiculous to protest this in my limited free time given all the other things going on in the world every day. Think it through.

These are fair points. It would be interesting to see what Madden did when they started releasing on PC. I really don't know if they surveyed their communities or not. Hopefully, should interest pick up with a PC version, we'll market this more.

To be fair, they didn't really list any reasons as to why it should be brought back other than it being a while; it's like me asking for parachute pants and the late 80's/early 90's neon coloured funky pattern clothes back because I haven't seen em recently.

@TTZ_Dipsy Erm..it should be brought back because there's a ton of pc players who want to play it. On top of that the technical reasons for PC lining up with a fast paced sports like hockey is faster refresh rates (which directly tie to lower input latency) and ultrawide support.

This article outlines the "reasoning" better if you're interested.

Not enough to warrant the resources though - it always comes back to this. The highest petition I've seen for PC hockey was around 10k people, let's be generous and push that to 15k -- I personally think you need to triple that number for them to even consider it. 15k of the total player base isn't much, let alone a ton.

The article you shared can basically only come up with "well, it'd look fantastic!" and ends with "well it's technically possible to create mouse controls", and "well, a good number of other sports are on PC".

Ice degradation, jiggly wiggly boards and taking the wind into consideration (I had to lol at that one) is all well and good but the game already has a plethora of things to fix that take priority over em. They added hundreds of new animations for 20 and still have some kinks they need to fix - playing on PC would require another 1000+ created to utilize the Hz and framerate effectively. It's added work not worth the trouble.

  • There are a ton of people in Russia and CIS countries (like Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Kazahstan) that would play the game on PC, because the main platform there was/is/and always will be PC. EA should spend some time to accurately research all of the markets, do some surveys, it's also for their own interest, not just ours. Believe me almost anyone in those countries would prefer to play the game on PC over the console.

  • Here is another huge reason why EA NHL needs to bring the game to PC: The NHL is currently suspended, and the next season won't start until February of 2021 at the earliest, meaning EA would have a whole 7+ months to bring the franchise to Steam and Origin. I'm no game developer, so I'm sure that developing games for PC is vastly different with things like coding and glitches/bugs, but it can be done, it should be done, and I want it done. I am so sick of playing NHL 2004, which is a great game, but I want something new and far more realistic on my computer.
