rookie too easy, pro too hard

Hi everyone,

Nice to be here for the first time. Here is a little brief story about me: I've been playing NHL games since the 93 for mega drive and from 94 until 09 on the PC, missing out on just NHL97 and NHL2001 (first one that needed a 3d card and I didn't have back then). I couldn't take not having a new NHL to play on the PC so I got the xbox 360 as well as NHL 14. On NHL09 for the PC I could play at the hardest difficulty and rarelly loose.

Now on NHL 14 however, I initially though it was that I was learning the controls, but I've been playing since sunday and I am finding the "ROOKIE" difficulty very easy, too much... and the next one up, the "PRO" difficulty is too hard. I've played with sliders to try and customize a little, but the AI always finds a way to [Comment Removed - Admin.] my team and tear it apart when I manage to keep it tight for the first two periods, you can bet I'll allow some 3-4 goals on the third.

I've seen people on forums saying they play on the hardest difficulty and win everygame.

Now I don't want to depend on scoring the same goal from a specific point of weakness of the game, I want to be able to play hockey without my goalie turning into a 12 year old boy amongst men.

Thanks in advance for any tips that come my way. I appreciate it.

Best Regards,

Leandro

  • I'm having the same problem. With 8 minute periods on Rookie I can usually win 9-1 or something along these lines. When I move up to Pro they constantly steal the puck, hold it in my zone while they snipe away. The first two periods I can keep it 2-1 and then in the third they can easily score 3-4 more with me barely getting a shot off. Very frustrating.

They need to patch this to make the transition smoother. Rookie has become boring and Pro has become frustrating so much that I'm 7 games into a season and don't really care to play it anymore.

you think pro is hard. you go above that and all of a sudden if you get even CLOSE to the boards with the puck then somehow MISTICLY the nearest defender will have you pinned against them. regaurdless of how much faster your player is than the cpu, even if you are 2 strides AHEAD of him on 2-3 strides of the boards. next thing you know yor pinned to them and 90% of the time THEY will get the puck out of the jam....welcome to EAsports

The best thing you can do is to go to the customize option on the main menu and  customize the AI there. Unfortunately it doesn't change too much the difficulty and how easy it is to score goals but you can easily make the AI play like actual players and control them to your style of play which of course will make it easier to tackle the higher difficulties which is always a challenge.

What kind of goals are you giving up?  Is the AI scoring from a "specific point of weakness"?  I find that it gets quite a few weak goals from around the point so I make sure I thake that shot away from it.
