Temporary NHL Division Realignment in Franchise Mode

The NHL is expected to have a divisional realignment this season (such as the All-Canadian Division), and then go back to normal after. Along with fixing the broken trade-value/Free-Agency-signings system, the next update should include the ability to customize NHL division alignment for one year, or even better on a year to year basis. This way you could alter the divisions for the first year to be realistic then go back to normal, if you choose. There should be some customization options with this.

It would also be nice to have the ability to have an expansion draft after the initial start of franchise mode. This would give the chance to add Seattle Kraken for 2021-2022 to the pacific division, and swap Arizona to the Central division where they are supposed to be. Kraken needs to be added to the list of play by names in create a team, it's absurd that it isn't there already; some sort of logo(s) would be nice too.

Reunlock customize ability to edit player age, height, & weight; & position & player type in Franchise Mode (bring it back...).

EA is "licensed" to make an NHL game, we don't own the NHL and are tasked to create a game, so the NHL has a part in what goes into the game. NHIL 21 represents the most recent NHL season, so having the Seattle Kraken excluded in this year's version is intended because they haven't played yet. This is similar to when players ask why rosters aren't updated for previous titles by including rookies from the draft. Rookies were drafted in the off-season, thus not representing that current season. If someone wanted to pick up NHL or Madden 21 3 years from now, they want to play the teams and players representing that year in their life.

  • The division idea is cool, I am still not convinced that all the other problems are going to be fixed for the mode so I wouldn't expect to see this as we didn't get the option for a 24 team playoff this year.

I have asked about the Kraken recently and was told they can not be included until their inaugural season, so they won't be coming this year. I have also requested for the last couple of years that it would be a cool feature to let us pick which year an expansion team enters our franchise and add multiple too if we wanted. Hopefully its something they include sometime.

@Beauts90 That's funny they said they cannot include Kraken as a team name; I bet they are lying and can but they just won't for marketing reasons (have to buy NHL 22 to play with Seattle Kraken instead of attempting to create them in NHL 21); a logo would be a different story, although I bet they can legally create some sort of sea monster logo(s), which would be better than their * cheeseburger logos. And if say they had Kraken as an optional team name prior to the Seattle Kraken, I'm willing to bet they would not have to remove it as an optional 'play by team name'. Who knows with EA though... Am I right @EA_Aljo ?

Dev teams can't make changes like that on a whim, especially on yearly titles; it's possible this could be a thing for next year but I highly doubt it'll come in 21.

They aren't allowed to add the Seattle Kraken this year due to various legal reasons but they'll be in 22. As for the play by play name and stuff I'm sure it just comes down to resources - there is VO, coding, testing, certification, etc. and there is so much other stuff they need to fix first.

  • @LordDecland I doubt they will be fixing many of the issues this year. I believe that they can’t use kraken for legal reasons for now. Which I’m not upset with anyways. With the state of the game, there wouldn’t be a point.

I honestly don’t even think they’ll even fix the stupidity of removing the edit player in FM this year. And if they do fix the trade values, it’ll likely be til well into the new year. And it’s very doubtful that the constant FA issues will be touched on this year.

I definitely will not be buying 22, since it’ll just be 21 but with bug fixes

@TTZ_Dipsy Seeing other games make vast changes in little time I'd think otherwise. EA NHL seems to release patches at close to the exact same dates every year regardless of the state of them game... I'm thinking they're in no rush. COVID might effect this year but otherwise I'd put money on it be within a couple days of December 7th, and the next at the end of January.
