Every player is allowed to customize their name. Those customized names do not come in as a customized name. For instance say another players name was "Schnoodle Johnson" it would appear as a NHL players name like "Steven Stamkos" rather than their customized name "Schnoodle Johnson". This also happens to every player I play against, not just a feak occurance.
I say that it happens during goals, hits, and assists because as you know if you play this game if you go to replays during this game it names the players involved in the play and again in this instance I'll use the previous names used in my example; it would show a hit replay of what should be "S. Johnson" as "S. Stamkos", or during the game that player scores a goal during the scoreboard banner that shows who was involved in the play again it would say "S. Stamkos" rather than "S. Johnson". Also when the game announcers pause to show an in game replay/highlight reel for a player again the name would say a NHL/AHL/CHL players name rather than the customized name "Schnoodle Johnson".
It is possible that EA has deemed your name inappropriate for some reason. Somtimes this happends when the computer thinks that you are using a profane name, but it is just similar. Perhaps it thinks "schnoodle" has a double meaning (d*ck). Hope i helped?
