Burnout Paradise Remastered, Cannot play online, VCRUNTIME140.dll error

Reposted, as it was removed due to spam??

As of today my game crashes just after the title screen, only when Origin is set to online.

If I set Origin to Offline, there aren't any issues. Both Origin and the game are up to date. Event log shows Faulting module name: VCRUNTIME140.dll. I'm using a pc with one graphics card installed.

Things I have tried: I tried removing and reinstalling Origin, Burnout Paradise remastered, Vc redist x32 and x64, and Dxdiag runtimes, to no avail. I also removed all known burnout paradise folders on the hard drive. I tried running the game in a window and fullscreen and also disabling vsync via the .ini file, which hasn't worked. I have tried turning off Origin Overlay, and uninstalled Msi afterburner. I have also disabled Windows game mode and DVR broadcasting. Also I removed Geforce experience, to no avail. I exited out of Malwarebytes and also disabled Windows defender firewall so no av/firewall apps are interfereing. No overlays are installed and running. I removed the previous two windows 10 updates that were installed (within the last month). I unplugged my xbox one gamepad. I also tested using the -skipvideos argument.. I have also restarted the pc a few times.

I have played Burnout Paradise online for a few years and this is the first time I have encountered this issue. From the event log, I thought it was a vc runtime issue so i reinstalled both the x32 and x64 from the Microsoft website, but sadly that hasn't worked. I tried reinstalling the VC and dxruntime files that are present in the Burnout folder, again no luck. I don't have issues playing Bf1 multiplayer in Origin.

Please watch the youtube video below to see the issue i'm facing. Any suggestions as to why this is happening is appreciated. This has me puzzled. Thanks.

Motherboard: Msi Mortar Max b450

Operating System: Windows 10 x64 v2004

    @EA_Barry

Thanks for the links and suggestion however installing those vc-redist files, which I did many times over, didn't help.

However, great news, I found a thread at Reddit that mentioned installing Obs virtualcam app as a possible fix. After doing do I was finally able to load Burnout Paradise with multiplayer enabled. I also found out that I could remove the virtualcam app and just uninstall obs studio and that fixed the issue as well, so in my case Obs-Studio was causing the issue. Super strange as obs-studio wasn't even running yet was interfering.

I never have used a webcam (do not own one) so I find it strange how this issue came about.  I recall having Obs studio and Burnout Paradise installed and running side by side fine in the past, perhaps a recent update in either Obs, Windows 10 or Burnout changed that.

    Thread I found at reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/Burnout/comments/h132ws/burnout_paradise_remastered_pc_crashes_upon_the/

Uploaded a video showing that it works - https://youtu.be/FZAR1RnvWd8

TLDR - Found a solution, if you have the same issue, and have Obs-Studio installed, either install Obs-Virtualcam or uninstall Obs Studio.

  • Thank you.fludz

I had the same exact problem you had in your video . Call EA for support did the EA chat for support none of there solutions worked .. I had the burnout paradise remaster on steam. So when I talk to EA on the phone I had them remove it from origin account for I can buy it directly from origins . Did the same exact thing.as it showed in your video steam and origins

    My PC spec

CPU: Ryzen 5600X 6-Core processor at 4.3 GHz

    Motherboard: MSI X570

    Ram: 48Gb

Graphics card: Sapphire nitro+ Radeon 5700 XT 8gb

    Soundcard: Onboard realtek audio

    Security software: Windows Defender Firewall

HD: 2x  Western Digital Black SN750 NVMe 1TB M.2 SSD

Your solution work for me https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-virtualcam.539. went there downloaded and install that program fix the issue.

I never had that program installed before at least not knowingly . Since this is freshly built PC, and last time I played the game was on my other Pc . I don't know if it was installed before, this OBS Studio program . Nor do I have a web cam on my desktop or ever on any of my desktops ..

BUT IT WORK, thx again Fluidz..Hopefully there so call tech's provide others to your solution because none of EA's worked.

  • Hi I found this game on EA Play (via XBox Game Pass) installing the Visual C++ Redistributable resolved the issue shown in the event viewer

Faulting application name: BurnoutPR.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5b365b73
Faulting module name: VCRUNTIME140.dll, version: 14.28.29913.0, time stamp: 0x604196ce

    Thank you for the tip
