It is due to a security update on EAs side which blocks account name change within 72h after the last one. Please wait at least 72h and try changing the name again. If it doesnt help, please report back for further assistance

I'm trying to change my name to allow our squad tags WTF within the game
At first I thought it may have been an issue with the Tags itself being "WTF" because i what it means in real life, but our clan name is "Weapons Task Force" and we have been using these tag in all online games forever - going back as far as Black Hawk Down.
I have managed to change my name to BI5HYxxWTF but all my clan mates have the WTF at the front of their name which looks a lot better.
What I'm trying to change it too is WTFxxBI5HY but I keep getting an error (ID contains a prohibited work or character)
The username (WTFxxBI5HY) is NOT already in use because if it was you get a Error message of - ID has already been registered
I don't understand why I'm not able to change the name to WTFxxBI5HY - all I want to do is rearrange what I currently have to match my other clan members.
If it was prohibiting the WTF then I shouldn't be able to have it in my name at all, and all my clan mates wouldn't be able to have it at the front if their names now.
Anyone able to assist????

The best thing to do is to try a variation on the name.

Like I said before, it can't be because of the WTF part in the name because about 7 other guys who I play Battlefield regularly with have changed their name to have the WTFxx in the front.
Is this what they call "A Battlefield thing"? broken again? I would like to have someone from EA / DICE who knows what is actually happening with their game try and answer me.
This should be an easy fix - It just doesn't make sense - I'm just getting soooooo frustrated with this whole thing.- I'm not about to change my game name when I've been using it for years.
Community ManagerHey @WTFxxMR_BISHY there is nothing that we can do in relation to this, if a username is not accepted then you will need to choose a different one.
I'd recommend using one of the alternate usernames you listed above.

Hello, I’ve been using a username on this account for so many years with no issues, recently I decided to check another username and once I changed it I wasn’t be able to use my older one even though I waited for more than 5 days! I can proof that the username was usable by me!
Its so strange to see something like this.
Just letting you know that you specifically suck at your job of customer service. Your attitude is poor.
Also to let you know that IF EA has a policy so strict it won't let a username like "lilburrito" my daughter's gamertag and nickname irl, it needs revised, not defended, and you should take the fact that you've locked several of these posts asking about the naming limitations as feedback that the system needs improved. How in God's name the word "burrito" is offensive is beyond me. Sounds

Specific usernames can be blocked for a number of reasons, if one you wish to use is blocked then the simple matter of the thing is that you will need to choose another.
There is nothing anyone can do to change this.

I understand it can be frustrating when you're unable to use the name you want in Origin, but this is not something we can help with directly. If the name isn't available, or if it's being blocked for any other reasons, we can only recommend trying a different name.
