Re: Friend list not showing up

Hey all, this is often a system or network issue so let's start by trying the following.

Disable Changing Internet Explorer’s Proxy Settings:

  1. Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
  2. Navigate to User ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesWindows Components, and then select Internet Explorer in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
  3.  Double-click Disable changing proxy settings in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
  4. Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.

Let me know how you get on.

  • It looks like it was an outage yesterday and this affected a lot of people worldwide.

Reported several places regarding the same issue. Down detector had plenty of reports as well and it was reported to #eahelp on twitter.

When several people report the same in a shot time span chances that this is just a local error on each computer is slim. Many individual computers doesnt suddenly talk with each other and decide to have the same local error in the same timespan :P

The first step should be for EA to check their servers before asking users to do lots of workarounds when you get multiple reports in a short time span describing the same error. Just a friendly tip.

Hey @3DiE9djua2 I actually tested this yesterday when the thread popped up and checked our internal info which is why I posted what I did above.

This issue that users are seeing is most likely system or network based on all the info that I had to hand and remains so. If this was an issue related to EA servers, which it was not, then I would have stated that.

  • @EA_Darko Strange that ea claims there were no issue when it was reported globally.

I too had issues along with the 80 people on my friends list.

I didnt do anything to fix this and it was fixed for all of us at the same time and strangely people where logged in and out of the friends list at the same time without users doing anything.

I also asked on 2 Discord servers I use where both have users from across the globe. All that answered confirmed they too had issues with friends list.

If I just summarize the ones I have seen reporting this we are talking about over 100 people having issues with friends list at the same time. And that is what I have confirmed alone. This is surely just a fraction of the the real number...

Also Respawn acknowledged issues with Origin on Tuesday while this was going on.

You may have had the information you had on Tuesday but keep saying that EA did not have issues with Origin on Tuesday when they clearly had issues doesn't make EA look good at all.

I never said that there were no issues @3DiE9djua2, there were some issues that some users were experiencing but the friends list was not affected.

In situations such as this, we need to troubleshoot, we don't simply say this is an issue and not try anything. The fact that I received DMs from users thanking me for the troubleshooting steps as it helped them fix the issue is testimony to this.

At any one time you can easily find a couple of hundred people having issues with any platform or game, this does not mean that it is a global issue or one related to the platform/game. Basic troubleshooting fixes 99% of issues we see raised, hence why we always recommend it.

We have access to internal tools which provide a much better insight into issues that may be occurring than third-party tools or others.

If you check the threads where people were reporting various issues related to Origin on Tuesday you will find that in most cases basic troubleshooting fixed the issue. That basic troubleshooting fixed the issue means that this issue was in most cases system or network related.

  • @EA_Darko please explain how 100 people across the world had issue with the friends list going offline at the same time. not speaking about during a 12 hours period but at the same time (synchronized) give or take a few minutes. Then we all came back online at the same time and went offline again and then back online. Please explain how this can happen so coordinated if it was just a random local issue. I was literally sitting on Discord talking with people when we came back online for a while before going back offline again. Please explain how computer over the world can be so synchronized if its just a local issue. Even you must see that this makes no sense and the logical conclusion is that this was caused by the 1 thing they all had in common: The online service that control the friends list.

The odds for this happening to 100 people this synchronized, with the same issue, who are on the same Discord communities if its not a service issue is so small its probably better odds winning in the lottery. And it was also reported many places online and even mentioned to channels like eahelp and playapex on twitter and hundreds of reports on places like downdetector where people even there commenting problem with friends list.

I guess all of over computers suddenly got self aware and started some conspiracy to make EA look bad by taking down our friends lists

But strangely no-one are reporting this issue today. Wouldn't this be reported all the time if is so common that 100 of computers in the same gaming communities are experience the same local issue with a online service at the same time?

I'm looking forward for your explanation on how hundreds of computers synchronizing themselves to have the same local issue at the same time, and synchronized themselves to also fix the issue at the same time, since its already ruled out it cant be the online service they all have in common that caused it :D

This is just going around in circles @3DiE9djua2.

As I said above, if you check the threads where people were reporting various issues related to Origin on Tuesday you will find that in most cases basic troubleshooting fixed the issue. That basic troubleshooting fixed the issue means that this issue was in most cases system or network related. There were issues affecting some users after the most recent Origin update but were rectified by most on the system side with basic troubleshooting steps.

If you or others should see this issue pop up again then please try the steps I posted above as in 99% of cases they will fix this issue when it appears.

  • @EA_Darko why should i follow the steps when the fix is to do nothing and let EA sort out the mess. it worked for me and everyone else I have mentioned.

You keep denying that there were an issue with the friends list while hundreds of people had an issue with the friends list. The correct number is probably thousands but I can of course only go by the cases I have verified myself.  I'm giving you real information and you just close your eyes and pretend it didnt happen.

But you are right. We are only going in circles because EA for some reason refuse to admit that there were an issue that affected many users.

And when called out on it you also refuse to give any explanation for an obvious flaw in your argument that it was only local issue happening.

But this isnt surprising at all because this is what EA do. When issues happen its little to no information and its always blame the local computer.

I'm very aware that there were multiple issues including people having verification loop, games not starting etc. I also assume they all are connected and it also affected the friends list for many.

And no information was given that such issues existed from EA until Respawn had to go out and confirm issues. (and it affected more that Apex and Titanfall)

Going to go ahead and close this thread now as it is just going around in circles.

If you see this issue pop up please try the steps I shared above.
