Re: Origin wont download/install

Sorry to see that your Origin is not working @snailprobation, the best thing to try in this situation is to clear your Origin cache.

You can clear the Origin Cache by following the steps below:

  1. Completely log out and close down Origin
  2. Hold down the Windows key and R
  3. Type in "%ProgramData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  4. Now open the Origin folder.
  5. Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for LocalContent (do not delete this one)
  6. Hold down the Windows key and R
  7. Type in "%AppData%" (without quotes) and click OK
  8. This will take you to a Roaming folder, which is located inside of AppData. Delete the Origin folder
  9. Click on the word "AppData" at the top of your window
  10. Open the Local folder here
  11. Delete the Origin folder listed here
  12. Restart your PC and log back into Origin

Let me know how you get on

Hey @trunchable can you ensure that your firewall and anti-virus are not blocking Origin and that you also have the ports for Origin open.

    The ports to open are:

    • TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 3216; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900
    • UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900

You can also try turning off the routers firewall to see if it helps.

If that does not work then can you take a little time to try the following steps:

    1. Try re-installing Origin:
      1. Close the Origin client.
      2. Open the Control Panel (find it by searching “Control Panel” in the Start menu).
      3. Click on Uninstall a program under Programs.
      4. Click on Origin and uninstall.
      5. Reinstall Origin

Try running Origin as an administrator:

    1. Close the Origin client.
    2. Right-click the Origin client icon on your desktop (or in the Origin directory if not on your desktop) and click Run As Administrator.

This runs the Origin client as an administrator account.

Try lowering the User Access Control settings:

    1. Close the Origin client.
    2. Click the Windows button and type "UAC" in the search field.
    3. In the User Access Control window, click and hold the slide bar —slide it to the lowest setting available.
    4. Click Ok at the bottom of the window.
    5. Open the Origin client

  • Origin won't download on my pc, says msvcp140.dll and vcruntime140.dll not found

  • This is my first time with Origin. So I wanted to play the Sims 4 but I don't just wanna buy it without knowing exactly what Im paying for. I wanted to just just try it so I pressed the option to test it or what not. When I did that it added its self to "My Games" and when I wanted to launch it it had said that I needed to download Origin. Ive been at it for about 30 minutes now and every time I try to download Origin it keeps saying "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem" and "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem". This is really setting me off and I don't exactly know what to do, I really want to start playing but I can't because of this. What should I do?

@Brobowest and @GeneralWeeb_Nia  Those files are part of the 2015 VC++ runtimes, which Origin needs to install properly.  It's best to uninstall your current copies, if you have any, and then download new ones from Microsoft.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable, click on both the x86 and x64 entries (if you have them), and select Uninstall.  You can download new copies here. Be sure to install both the x86 and x64 versions.

Restart your computer, and try to install Origin again.

@JaejaeC7  When you click Download on the page I linked, you should be asked which versions you want.  Select the x86 and x64 versions, and they'll both download.  You can run the installers from your Downloads folder.

  • I'm having similar problems and this doesn't work for me. I had it on my computer months ago with no problems, then I had to factory reset my computer for a game which got rid of origin as well. Since then I have been unable to install origin again. At first I could click the button to start the process only to have an error message pop saying it couldn't find the file. Now it wont even do anything when clicking the download button.
