I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with Origin client ☹️
For the future reference, if you would like to stop the download, but the button is not working, try to close down the application and clear its cache - that should remove everything from the download queue.
I'd also recommend to simply uninstall Origin and download its newest version from our website.

If deleting the download cache still does not stop the download, or my case update, what else might we be able to try? I tried contacting EA support and told them about my issue and they said it is a known porblem but have no troubleshooting instructions. Basically I can't update a game I paid for and have been hoping to play because of a known yet unown error. Not sure what to do.
P.S.- the game is sims 4 on my mac
I should explain that it first gave me a download error message. I uninstalled, deleted dowload cahce, reinstalled, turned off my mac- now it is stuck on 28% download rate. Left it on for hours and no change
Community ManagerHey @tiffpmar420, can you ensure that you are running Origin as administrator and that your firewall and anti-virus are not blocking Origin and that you also have the ports for Origin open.

You can also try turning off the routers firewall to see if it helps.

I have the same exact problem, deleting cashe files did not work. Uninstalling and reinstalling origin might be a faster alternative to waiting for the game to finish installing/updating
If I uninstall Origin, will I have to reinstall my games?
i came to late but just open the App as admin that's what worked for me
