@huunter_19810 From what i've seen the guys from the Revive did not get permission to use the games, which are the intelectual property of EA. If they can talk with EA and obtain the permission to continue working, that would be nice. A lot of people would love to see the old BF games back online. Proper channels is always the key. Not asking for permission was a mistake. But again, most people aren't familiar with how copyright works.

@Straatford87 looks fair to me. Polite, nice. And they've seem to have complied. Which is a good thing. So...i personally don't see any problem. I wish that the news sites would have posted the notice, too. Not only throw sensational titles, but to actually present the facts?!  Rock Paper Shotgun at least linked the notice, but others didn't bother to do it. Journalism in our days makes me sad☹️

    Hi,

I'm the project director of Wildfire, a system that has been running for almost two years now and is almost identical to Revive but it targets Crysis Wars:

If they can talk with EA and obtain the permission to continue working, that would be nice.

It sure would be, unfortunately the policy of EA seems to be to ignore all such requests (I myself have sent them one email and two written letters to their legal team and haven't heard anything back- even in the case of Crysis Wars which cannot be purchased digitally anymore). Fortunately for me I live in the UK and the UK's copyright legislation allows the use & distribution of copyrighted works if the copyright owner does not respond within a reasonable timeframe.

It would be great if EA could acknowledge these requests (even to deny them) since in a court of law (if Revive ever got that far) the case would likely be dismissed since EA waited until Revive was really popular before issuing the takedown (aka, they waited too long).

  • It seems like EA was really nice with them. Also they didnt tell them to stop distributing the client (maybe im wrong because english is my second language). It makes sense that they shouldnt distribute the games themselves.

Would be nice to see the Revive back in action and the servers should be in countries where copyright laws arent completely * (maybe uk like someone here mentioned).

Also sorry for necro even though the thread is 2 weeks old
