Star Trek never really was to my taste. Doctor Who is just one of those shows that I simply haven't gotten around to it yet. Perhaps I will actually love it! ๐
@Star Trek
Fair enough, it would be pretty boring if we all would have the same taste. ๐
@Doctor Who
You should at least take a look at the new Series. It is quite the opposite of Star Trek. ๐

I was looking for words to describe it, having read your post I would say that dense covers is perfectly.
Since there isn't anything on the horizon regarding these types of movies, I do hope that we will someday get a scary movie like this again. Perhaps the IT remake will do the trick?
I don't know, "IT" is my favourite Stephen King book, but I am almost always disappointed by literary films.
Maybe "Alien Covenant" can do the trick, at least it is made by the Master himself. It is of course on a slightly different level, but still Horror.
Next time I'm looking for something new to watch, I will give Doctor Who a go. You can laugh at me if my reaction is: why didn't I watch this sooner!? What have I been doing with my life!?
I'm with you on the books made into film though. Most films don't hold true to the book, or disappoint as a book is able to take a much deeper look at the subject matter.
I actually never read IT, so perhaps I should do that to prepare myself before the new movie comes out. I've heard that it's quite a read so it might take me a while.. :D

So, @Straatford87 doesn't like Star Trek? ๐ข๐๐คจโน๏ธ
I just can't do it captain, I don't have the power!
I am attempting to fill a silent moment with non-relevant conversation.
I'm going to let a good friend say what I feel about @Straatford87 not loving Star Trek:

That is about the reaction I'm hoping for. ๐

Very true, plus, nothing can beat your fantasy. (Well, Peter Jackson did that once or twice for me. ๐ )

It is quite a read for sure, but it is more than worth it imho. But maybe you should wait until you see the Film.
So you avoid spoilers and are up for a reading that goes much deeper than any film could go.Well, we sadly can't convince them all. โน๏ธ

I did go out to see Alien yesterday...... I shall remain silent until you've seen it as well ๐
- Fred_vdp9 years agoHero+
I just came back from watching Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl accompanied by a live orchestra. That's certainly a fun way to watch a movie.

Awch, this hurts. I will not be able to watch it for weeks due to tons of work and duties. ๐ขโน๏ธ

Oh wow - that's really cool actually!
Would love to hear a bit more about that. Was it a special screening somewhere? Or perhaps a total surprise?
I will be ready and waiting to discuss all about it when the times comes.. ๐
- Fred_vdp9 years agoHero+
I wouldn't call it a special screening. It was advertised as a concert and took place in the Lotto Arena in Belgium, which is a common venue for concerts. They just happened to play the music over the entire film, which is a nice touch.
What I found funny is that some people got up and left during the end credits while the orchestra was still playing. It's like they went just for the movie, which wasn't really the point. ๐
- Straatford879 years ago

I've never a movie combined with a concert. What should we call it.. a movcert? Convie? :D
I agree with you that if you're just there for the movie, perhaps instead go to the cinema?
How about you though, did you enjoy the concert or the movie more?
- Fred_vdp9 years agoHero+
It was the first Pirates movie in the series, so I already knew I was going to like it. It's a bit curious, however, that they picked the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie for this concert because the second and third movie have richer soundtracks. The first movie was originally going to be composed by Alan Silvestri (from Back to the Future) but he dropped out and had to be replaced quickly, so the entire soundtrack was written super fast by a team of composers from Hans Zimmer's production house. I assume this is why the soundtrack sounds suspiciously similar to that of some other Hans Zimmer movies, Gladiator in particular. ๐

You can't go wrong with anything related to Hans Zimmer, in my opinion. Especially Gladiator.. wow!
Are you a fan? And what are some of your other favorite composers?
- Fred_vdp9 years agoHero+
I think Hans Zimmer is pretty good. My favorite work of his is The Lion King. My favorite film composer is John Williams.

I love everything about the Lion King - especially the soundtrack.
What are some of your favorites from John Williams?

Oh oh.... you guys just opened the book on my second major passion. As you already know I am passionate about my games and room but even more so about my movies and Home theater room. Yep that definitely means I love me some movies . Currently got almost two racks worth of movies in my collection. When I am not working or gaming I,m chillen in front of a movie turned up to 11 lol.
I got way to many favorites , I mean i love a lot of them. Aliens was mentioned here and if no one has seen the remastered first Aliens on blu ray on a nice HD panel then its a must. The remaster version shows details that i didn't even see on the standard rez versions. That level of clarity really shows off the massive amount of work and detail that was in a lot of the sets.
Reign of Fire is another favorite out of many , funny thing was when i first watched it I was like , meh...then the more i watched it the more it became a favorite of mine. Something about that movie now really hits the spot.
Another i liked but wasn't main stream popular was the 2006 Superman Returns. I know im the the only one that liked it probably lol but i really did enjoy it. Plus the LFE drop when Luther drops the crystal piece in the water is a sub woofer test indeed.
I could keep going so with so many to list I will just post up couple of quick pics of the collection. I like them all hence why i bought them . Showing them is easier then listing them all in typing ๐

You have ANOTHER room? ๐ฎ
Impressive collection you've got there! I admit that I spend quite a while browsing through the titles. I think at this point that it's also safe to state that with your game room and home theater room, that you will never be bored at your place!

We certainly got quite a few Alien fans in this thread. I've seen Covenant on Friday, but I can't discuss yet because everyone still has to see it.. :D

I haven't seen the other movies that you mentioned, but I guess I can add them to my "to watch" list. Thing to note: the list is getting huuuuge! There's way too much that I still need to see.. ๐
It's especially the case on this forum where there have been awesome suggestions from lots of users regarding games and movies. A person only has so much time in a day..
Glad to have you part of this thread though - welcome! And I have to ask of course.. anything cool and interesting that you can share about your home theater room? :-)

Tom - "You have ANOTHER room?"
Gary falls to floor sobbing in hands - " Yes , god yes ok...its a addiction . God knows i have tried to 'just say no' but i couldn't ok..!!!! so weak....DON'T LOOK AT ME !!!!"
ahem....alright , now that that's over lol . Yes I do have another room and It as well took some time to come together . The wage i was making over the 10 years I worked as a Industrial Truck technician helped a lot as well. Never had kids ether, well none that I know off hehe and so i guess that helped with the funds too. Anyways getting back to the point I do always have something tech wise to keep me from getting bored indeed. ๐
Yes i haven't seen Covenant yet myself but I am usually late with movies as i wait to buy then watch them on the home theater.
I hear you on finding time. 40 hrs a week work then life only leaves a person with so much time left. Oh well there will always be games and movies for sale so its not if but when we will get to them right.
Sure I can share some info on the room. Nothing mega fancy but I run a Oppo BDP-103 blu ray player , Anthem MRX 500 receiver , Panasonic ST65 Plasma , Paradigm -Titan Monitors V6 - CC-190 V6 - ADP 190s V6 - Atom Monitors V6 and 2 Monitor sub 12s for a HD 7.2 system. As well I run a Buttkicker BKA 1000 - 4 amp with two 1000 watts transducers in my couch. Here is a picture of the front of the room. Also thanks for having me on the thread .Good to be part of a great group. ๐

I think few pieces of movie soundtrack fit as perfectly as Map Room / Dawn from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The Asteroid Field gets me pumped:
And I also like Schindler's List:

Gary, once again, that's a really impressive room that you have there!

Well, if I had an awesome room such as yourself I would definitely prefer to see all my movies at home as well! Since we talked about work, I guess you then also know the great feeling of being done with a busy week to crawl on the couch for a great movie, or to sit behind the PC for some great games. It's just an awesome method to relax after a long week.

You're very welcome here! Love having your joyful presence around.. :-)
So about your rooms: is it the act of setting up the rooms that makes it such a nice hobby for you? As in, selecting all the specifics to put in there, and then making it all work? Or do you enjoy the final product, so to speak, where you can sit down in your new room when it's all done?
This one is easy for me:
I'm still afraid of sharks and the ocean after all these years...
Thank you very much. Many many hours of hard work got me both rooms and i can say with sincerity i never take them for granted. ๐
Just being able to pause for that 4th " I really need to use a smaller glass " bathroom break or just having control over the movie in general makes it my personal preference over the Movie Cinemas.
Plus here in Canada we get really ripped off at the Cinemas. Home theater just allows more freedom for me IMHO. So that why im usually behind in my movies.
I definitely understand the busy work week deal. You nailed it for sure. There is no words to describe that very moment when the BS of the job disappears when the game or movie starts. Is a escape from the rough reality we endure for sure man ! Its priceless indeed. :eahigh_file:
Well its a combination of many things that make setting up my rooms , or friends to that makes it a passionate hobby for me . I have been a Audio Videophile for as long as i can remember and seeing and hearing games , movies or music in its purest possible form is a addictive thing. Im one of those people who enjoy the finest of details in sound and video both. As i got more and more into the hobby i learned more and more and it just snowballed from there. There is just something about finely tuned sound and video that attracts me big time. Think of it like those who can stare at a art piece for hours and see things others can not . Or the sculptor that has a admiration and passion for every piece of work they do. Playing a game or watching a movie in its purest form is one of those things that draws me in every time. I enjoy it even more so on a system i built and calibrated myself as its a good sense of accomplishment. The pursuit of the finest details only pushed me to learn more and more to enable me to get them . Well to get them with in my budget that is lol.
LOL , yea that theme did it for many of us. Many a beach suffered from lack of people because of that movie and theme :P

Anyone else excited about the upcoming Netflix series based on The Witcher?
http://www.platige.com/en/page/839-The_Witcher_Saga_On_Netflix
It's based on the books and Sapkowski (author) is involved as creative consultant. Oscar winning director Tomek Baginski, who directed the intro cinematics of the video games, will direct some episodes. Baginski was originally turning this into a movie but figured it would work better as a series.
I hope they find nice people to play. And they must to show a really good chemistry between Geralt and Yen, otherwize it will be a failure.
Ha-ha. No, I can't agree with you, Fred. Geralt deserves to be represented on screens. After that they can make a PFI spin-off.
I'm eager to see Wild Hunt and their home and Kaer Morhen. Where to find right castle?
