Tired of Origin's launcher....

EDIT:  hello, first of all, sorry, I read again this after months and I understood I was too much nervous. So sorry and don't took example from me! We need to be better to speak and with more calm.. I was disappointed when I wrote this, so don't consider this. Consider my excuses of now, by reading it, I was too quicky to take my own conclusions. Never take example from me.. I'm the contrary of humble person, so i don't want influence people to be like me. To be kind and calm is a virtue. We must learn this virtue not this example of 'pride' of my part. So sorry again! But we are here to change and see our mistakes and became better! Right? 🙂

EDITED.

  • @valearci33Thanks to all for each point of view. Im sure im not speaking for 'All' in the sense that we all the world are tired of Origin. With "WE " I mean all that don't like Origin.

    EDIT!

Sorry, I don't want influence in negative way, so I delete everything. Please, do the same! Thanks

  • May I ask, what major game developer/publisher ARE you going to play then??

    Ubisoft---now has Ubiplay, a steam/origin clone.

    EA--Has Origin, a steam/ubisoft clone.

    Blizzard--Has Battle.net launcher...a steam/ubiplay/Origin clone.

Bethsedea--Uses steam and even now is starting dev on Bethsedea net launcher....

    Crystal Dynamics--Steam...see above....

So which one are you going to support??  Or are you only going Gog??  Which will miss out on most of the newer big name launches, which if that is ok with you, then knock yourself out.  Honestly though , unless you are going console gaming(which has it's own store and update issues) then you are pretty much going to have to deal with some form of Launcher app, and most likely multiple depending on how wide a game base you play.  I currently have 5 on my computer....

    Edited to add.....

And please don't talk like you speak for all gamers or PC users.  You may not like it, and you can link to groups of others, but just because you and your group doesn't like it, doesn't mean others hate it too.  Now I would PREFER to not have to deal with some of the stuff in Origin, but for ME it has made life easier to buy, store, and use games by EA publishing....just as Steam did for others and even Ubiplay has made ubisoft games easier to get and deal with....  I absolutely hate looking for codes on old games to reinstall them and digging through stuff trying to find the manual to get it, or hope it hasn't been damaged too much to read, and the space taken up on shelves due to the cases.....  Origin has made things neater and easier in many ways for me.

In today's digital age, with the availability of the internet in just about every device,  and the speeds of or internet connections, digital pricey would go unchecked without a way for companies to protect their investments using Digital Rights Management (DRM)  witch is part of what these launchers manage.  If it where not for launchers like Origin and the many others @mcsupersport mentioned, the businesses that make the games you love would  would have to charge more, and develop less content to get the same investment out of the game.   And doing so could encourage even more players who want these games look towards piracy to obtain them feeding back into this cycle.   They are a business after all and the goal for creating games is to make money.  and if they are not making money, then they are not going to make the games you love.

With out these loaders and DRM the real looser would be the fans like us.

  • The first poster does not state that he speak for all gamers or PC users (PC users are gamers too).
So please do not say he does, it is not fair.

I would prefer to not use origin or steam or battle.net or any other launcher.
I am forced to use the launchers, I do not like that.
There are a lot of people who agree with this and a lot of people who disagree.

EA and other businesses choose to use the launchers and to use it also for DRM.
DRM can be managed in other ways. Most of these ways would not cost more money.

There is no causality between launchers and the costs of development of a game.
There is a causility between launchers and sales.

If a business would develop less content to get the same investment out of a game they risk
that they will sell less games, so less return on investments.

If they do not make games, then they can not sell. So not making games, is no money.

The fact is that launchers will continue to be used, so those that do not like them (including myself) will unfortunately have to adjust to them.
More options to change layout and content of the launcher would make the adjustment easier.

The original poster makes a thread:  WE ALL ARE TIRED OF ORIGIN launcher....

He doesn't say HE is tired of Origin launcher, or Many people are tired of, or any other combination of ways to say it, but instead went with the all inclusive WE ALL ARE.  So that is why I say he shouldn't talk about like he is the spokesman for ALL PC gamers.   It is a common mistake that many people make, and I bet if you had a recording of every argument and thread discussion I have ever been in, you would find that I had done the same.  But, at some point, if you keep making that kind of statement, you need to be corrected and have it pointed out you can only talk about YOUR opinion and the opinions of people who have given you that right(election or hiring).

Now the launchers are a item with multiple functions.  One part is DRM...cause for some reason people see no issue stealing a 60-100$ game but if you stole a 100$ bill out of a cash register they would be outraged.  One part is store, to cut costs by no longer having physical disks, and cutting out the middle man or retailer thus keeping more money to the main distributor...ie EA in this case.  If you look back games really haven't gone up in price in the past 20 years or so, as I can remember paying between 50-60 dollars for games back in early 2000s....while things such as cars have gone up considerably.  So game producers or companies such as EA have to figure out how to keep costs down, and still make a profit.  And another part digital library, so people can keep up with their games and have easy access to the newer digital format that games are in.  Also with the size of newer AAA games, digital download makes since in most cases so people don't have to have multiple DVDs or Bluerays to install their games.  Newer games would take 2-4 bluerays disks depending on if single layer or dual and the size of the game....some hitting 60-80Gigs of space.

I personally would love more skins, options and layouts for all the launchers on my system....still want a dark skin for Origin so it isn't as bright during nighttime play.  For me personally, it took a bit of time to come to grips with the launchers and store concept....I delayed and delayed getting on steam and then Origin until I HAD too, to play the next game I wanted....man did I whine about that.  But, I used them, and found out I actually liked the launchers for the most part and love having all my games kept in digital format ready to download or play without having to dig through boxes and boxes of CD/DVD/Blueray cases to find the game disk, oops, last time I played didn't put it back, now which case is it in, and where is the manual for the code since I have to reinstall it....yeah, I now generally speaking like the launchers.  I say generally speaking because they do still tick me off on occasion, but not near as often as the plastic cases did.

  • I never seen any problem with the Origin Launcher, it's my fav launcher because of it's subscription option and the former On the House program which brought me into the world of gaming, I think 90% of my games are in Origin, most via the Premier sub, I have most EA games as well as 3rd party games, which I rather having on Origin even if they are on Steam as well, also it's much easier to get DLC via Origin then having to go to the actual store and hope that the DLC is there, not to mention virtual currency like Sims 3 points, also the fact that I have all my games in one place, instead of looking for the CD all over and hope it won't break inside the PC (happened to me before), even if I will have a time machine, I won't go back to the pre-digital era, so not everyone tired from Origin.

CD Projekt disagrees, and they're a fairly big publisher. They used to crack down hard on pirates (even with lawsuits), but they changed their tune after some time.

The Witcher 2 had two versions at release: A DRM-free digital download on GOG.com, and a boxed copy protected by SecuROM. The pirates decided to crack and share the latter just to prove a point.

All the games they host on GOG.com are required to be DRM-free. (EA also has a bunch of DRM-free titles there if you're interested.) Despite that, they're doing really well.

@valearci33 It is not only the updates but almost every day for the last two weeks, I get the message that "Ooops! That didn't go well." Then it tells me I'm offline!

If I am offline, then how the heck did Origin accept my login details in the first place?????

Fortunately, I loaded SIMS 4 off a disk, so I have a shortcut on my desktop. Whenever Origin doesn't want to play, I can still get to SIMS 4 via the shortcut.

And Origin wants to know why I absolutely refuse to endorse it to anyone else. And when I get to talk to a real person at EA, all they do is shrug their shoulders and basically say "That's life!"
