At least in career mode, I set it to Legend, start a race, and after 5 or 10 seconds if I pause the game and go to settings, it’s set to Hard. Thanks it’s a bug, I couldn’t believe they are so slow…
edit: it does not happen with in every race

I remember having this happen to me too. I was wondering why I had an easy time in a couple of the Gauntlet races only to find the game turned the difficulty down.
I suspected it had something to do with me running lower difficulty for the AI when hosting online lobbies before doing those races.
