Is it not possible to chat in game with EA friends, or am I missing something?

My friend and I purchased Grid Legends for crossplay capabilities.  He is on PS5 and I'm on Xbox Series X.  We can join each others lobbies - but no chat.  I like to think I'm missing something as it...

@CoderDudge agreed.... may aswell just have a ghost car driving around the track with your friends best times.

This is one of those games that I played for all of about 2-days and never went back. I'm generally an online only player - so this was a complete waste of money for me.

Definitely needs a voice feature for chatting with friends and random people while on the track.
