Re: “Long Drive” Fairway Challenges

Solved it:

Power does not mean the total force applied (display next to the upswing of the driver) - it means the speed during the downswing (small percentage display on the left above the swing circle). There must be either "perfect" or a percentage with a plus in front of it.

I was able to achieve this on the PlayStation by not pressing the stick forward during downswing, but by flicking it forward.

I hope you understand what I mean and that it works for you.

Best regards

That 's not quite right actually. The power shown at the bottom right needs to be positive for the shot to be 100% power or above, and this number is the sum of the number for where the backswings stops (over or under-swing) and the timing number (fast or slow). For example if you hit a +1% over-swing and a -1.5% slow then the shot power will be +1% - 1.5% = -0.5%.

So essentially, you have to hit a overswung fast drive to do the objective? There has got to be a better way to describe that in game because I know many people who also gave up on these types of objectives because it seems impossible given the current description and then nothing counting in game.

Not necessarily, the total power as I just described has to be positive, so you could still pass it hitting every shot slow if you were able to overswing enough to compensate. Aiming for a fast overswing is probably the safest way to go though 🙂.

See attached video. Not all of these would count but a couple at the end are overswung and perfect, which by your definition is 100% Power, and it lands and stays in the fairway. No objective progress. At this point I am starting to think this is completely bugged.

Try pushing up on the d-pad. The arrow has to be out to max distance for it to be 100%. It defaults closer to tee so its really at 90% or something

What a stupid and frustrating challenge to put in the game.  You don't have to be precise really in this game to enjoy it or even be good at it yet here you have to hit three perfect tempo and power drives out of 5, or 6 or 7 drives or whatever it is.  Why even do this?

I can't view your video I'm afraid - it just shows as a tiny embedded image. Note I didn't say anything had to be perfect - it's the power in the bottom right to look at. @d186069e2d888744 may well be right that you need to have made sure you've set your aim point fully forward first, so I suppose you won't have hit 100% of that clubs power.

No, you really don't. Nothing has to be perfect at all. Virtually all of the drives I hit in regular gameplay would meet the criteria of this challenge. I honestly gave this challenge very little thought when I completed it.

I am really struggling with it.  I am not having a problem with the game in general, but my swings do always seem to be slow.  I really concentrated on this challenge and I am certain that I hit three shots that should have qualified.  All were at max distance with the slow not exceeding the overswing.

I think I have always been hitting it slow due to a tendency to want to keep hold of that stick as I push it forwards.  Flicking does seem to work but It doesn't feel a nice way to have to play.  This could of course be issues with my controller, I play on PC using what must be a pretty old Xbox One wireless controller these days.

You shouldn't need to flick it and I think the fact you need to points to a different issue that I suspect you've posted about elsewhere. You've set your player to the slowest swing speed, right? I have a hunch this setting may be showing as applied for some when it actually hasn't... When I first started playing the game I selected the fastest swing speed I think, and with that setting I found I did need to flick it to not get slows too, and like you this felt uncontrolled and wrong to me. For me though reducing the swing speed solved this. I'm on normal swing speed now.

  • Of course, after a little break I go back into the game and do it with my first three shots . . . . doh.

I have tried everything I can think of and still cannot get any consistency with what determines a “long drive”. I can hit 5 shots in the fairway with a driver, FIR, and 100% or more power and still not achieve the long drive. EA needs to speak up about this bc it affects more than one challenge.

    I’ve used

    -Drive

    -Power Drive

    -Spin and No Spin Control

    -Boost and No Boost

    -Draw, Fade, Straight

    -Arcade, Pro, and Tour

All achieving what is defined as a “Long Drive” by the game itself. Nothing seems to work on that Titleist challenge.

Furthermore, the challenges are rather ridiculous. Restart should just restart you on the tee, not walk you through the flag, sponsor, layout, and sponsor again before you can actually restart. Takes forever.

@Meathammer23if you let me know exactly which of the Titleist challenges you're referring to I'll have a look. Note that if you press the options/menu button on any challenge you should see a 'caddie tip' that will explain what terms like 'long drive' mean.

I have completed the long drives as per the caddie tip. All requirements were met but it seems there is something else in the code beyond what is stated. I eventually did complete the challenge on Titleist sponsor challenges but it seems the drive has to travel a certain distance. 320, 325 yards give or take seemed to be the factor accompanied with “Driver, 100% power, and Fairway in Regulation”.

This is also applicable on the Cobra sponsor challenge when facing Bryson DeChambeau. 10 long drives. That is hard enough challenge in itself hitting 10 fairways on an 18 hole challenge with the already given requirements.

Please let us know if there is something in the code that requires a particular distance on the drive which does seem to be a hidden qualifying factor.

What platform are you playing on? This categorically was not a requirement for me on PS5 but possibly it is platform dependent.

Another way the distance needed may seem to vary is an individual player's power skill level, in that the higher this is the further a 100%+ power (not overshoot)  shot will go.

All the long drive challenges seem to have some unclear determining factor. Titleist has one, Cobra has one, and I believe there are a few more. This is on the XBox platform and I have maintained the “Caddie Tip” requirements. Look and see if there is some distance requirement that is hidden.

I have no way of doing the part in bold but I'm sure there wasn't for me. As I said, I completed one of these by deliberately clipping a tree so the drives weren't long at all! I'm sure there isn't meant to any distance requirement which is why I've been trying to see if anyone can share video proof of things not working as they should, which I will flag to try to get it passed on to the devs if one gets posted. Without this there are always going to be questions over whether someone really was doing everything as intended and so making it easier to dismiss.

If a challenge requires 3 or more long drives is there a way to check incremental status? IE: 1/3 long drives; 2/3 long drives, etc..

Sadly only via the stars when you first reach each milestone.

Yeah there ought to be some sort of notification or progress bar like in older versions of their games.

I was just about to post this.  I too now have finally come across this challenge I've been hearing about, I'm on the PC.    And I can't for the life of me figure out what is a long drive.  Haven't got one star on it.  I know when playing a career tourney round one time it said I got a long drive as part of a quest.  I had previously assumed that meant the ball had to carry over 300 yds.  But it seems I was wrong.  Pretty sure I've got 325 yds total and it didn't count.  Something is definitely being missed here lol.

  • I can't redo challenges I've done in the past but 'Long Drives' should count the same on holes played in other modes too I think. From a quick experiment last night I now think something has changed as some shots I know were counting this way no longer are. Whether this is a change to the game or a result of my player now being higher level/power and with more specs I have no idea. I'll do a bit more testing when I get chance...

I can't figure it out.  I've even hit some perfect drives over 300 yds.   didn't count.  I gave up on it man.  makes no sense.

Not able to complete the Titleist FSi Fairways challenge. Very frustrating. Hit all my drives over 100% with driver in the fairway. I got the first two stars - but the "Hit 3 Long Drives" doesn't register no matter what I do. I'm on PC for what it's worth.
