Re: Confused on Swing Mechanics (XBOX)

Yea this game has got me so confused and frustrated with the swing. Playing on PS5 and Tour settings.

Timing makes no sense. Pulling back on the stick it seems like the animation is just slow to react so when you push forward when the club reaches the top it logs it as a over swing, so you just learn to push up sooner even though the club isn’t at the top of your swing yet really.

Every drive or shot to the green is considered slow. No matter how fast I push the stick up through the controller it’s always slow. Don’t get it. Some chips or puts alI will accidentally get Perfect tempo, but when I try the same speed on the next drive, it’s slow.

Approach shots. 4-5 iron. I’m like ok I have to go short of the pin to run it up bc it’s not going to get a whole lot of backspin. I get that. It runs passed the hole and off the green. Next time, remembering what happened last time, go even shorter. The ball stops 1-2 from where it landed.

Have the trail of the ball visible. It says it’s gonna be past the hole bc the green is lower elevation. Take less club. It lands in the fairway front of the green. Next shot like this, it flies it.

Ball trail says it will land right at the fringe of the green. “Oh just overswing a little and it’ll land on the green,” my brain thinks. Nope, panda well short in the bunker.
I’ve played golf games for a very long time. Multiple Tiger Woods games from when it started to when it ended, Rory game, Golf Club 1 & 2, and the 2k series. Was really good at all of them. But this game is frustrating me to no end because the swing mechanics are not consistent nor does it make any sense. On top of that there’s nothing that goes through and shows you ALL the swing mechanics that I know of.
Just need to get this all off my chest. Have a good day everyone and good luck.

I am slowly getting getting dialed in, but it is more learning to work around the game mechanics vs getting better.   Here are some important tips i learned.   First make sure you get finese shot.   It drastically shrinks the landing area.  Max out the skill line that has finesse shot.   I use finese shot on almost every approach.  Just keep in mind 3i and 4i do not stop well.   I would also invest in the control area of driving, short game,  etc etc   By default the landing area of the driver is almost as wide as the FW.  Its a dark circle.   Even if you hit a perfect spot the ball can land anywhere in that area.  The annoying part is 95% of the time it lands in the middle, but if the hole is tight it decides to randomly shoot left or right.

For uphill / downhill you just roughly take the feet uphill / downhill and divide by 3 and that is the yardage you add / subtract.  For example if you have a 100yrd shot 30 feet downhill you would take 10 yrds of the shot and play it at 90.

The slow tempo is just something i work around.  I always hit a few% slow then get a little overswing which comes close to balancing it out.   Certainly not ideal, but it is fairly consistent for me
