Re: Feedback on PGA Tour

I might not always agree with you on some things, but this post I have to. You nailed so many issues all at once!

You know the worst thing with that putting line though? They made it worst in patch 4.0

At least previously, you could see it end to end clearly, instead of having that fade in effect that makes it less than easy to line up with if you have less than perfect vision.

It is inaccurate in general, but I soon started to regard it as a "so that's the rough line," kind of thing, and then set up a shot that will hopefully go in, usually by aiming either inside or outside of the line, according to the situation, and adding plenty of heel or toe to the hit.

Follow the line every time: approx 33% chance of making the putt.

Use it only as a guide: 66% chance or more of making the putt.

I'd kind of expected EA to make 'assistive' parts of the interface be just that, but they seem to want to take the assistive stuff away in favor of aesthetic value.

Earning currency is also an issue I agree with. Now that I've finished with all but the last 4 seasons of placing for the fedex cup, I know that my chances of gaining currency have dropped off, and now I will be looking forward to the daily quest reward and little else, due to not being able to hold and use a controller hence tournaments are mostly out of reach.

  • They must remove the digital gods.

I’ve played with learning computers for years. I see you. 😉

But a Golf game is NOT the place for randomness. I understand it in your higher difficulty settings because some people enjoy it as it does add the realism they want, but it seems like most of us just want to have fun playing a video game. A game that we can advance on by learning how to play the game well.

Knowing that no matter how well you control the game, that ball will randomly just go “somewhere in the direction in which you aim” is terribly frustrating.

So far, I have only played a couple rounds since the update but that new putt line visual is definitely off.  I actually do like the new swing meter though.

hopefully in the next patch they address some of these consistent complains better than the game rewards consistent play.

  • Agreed with all of that Saint.

it’s a damn shame but I’m beginning to see why the mechanics of 2k draws people to that game…. It’s more playable.  It might not look better graphically, or have Lidar mapped courses, but it’s more playable.

First few weeks of this game I was loving it.  Breath of fresh air; then I started getting pretty good at the game and start challenging the accounts at top of leaderboards, I learnt the game pretty well, and started noticing major flaws in wind, greens, swing tempo being luck rather than skill of the person on the sticks.

now I’ve played the game for a while, I’m convinced that most things are RNG in the game.  I’m losing interest because of it.  The game looks great and has good features, but the mechanics and RNG are ruining it now.

5 minutes ago in todays SIM 9 holes at east lake.  I had 90 yards to the pin, around 15 ft of elevation uphill, wind was 8-12 north east of the pin…. I finessed it 89 yards adjustment

    was 1% slow swing

it came 28 yards short of the pin

  • Hey Blue, you still need to adjust for wind and elevation in this game. Not sure if that is a thing in 2K or not. I haven't played it. But I found that you needed to in this game to consistently hit your shots around the flag and not short or long. I still miss sometimes because I'm still struggling controlling the stick and I add too much over swing or under swing.

Anyway, to make a long story short, you add 15 yards for the elevation but because the  8-12 yard NE wind is blowing the ball further you take off 8-12 yards.  Because it is not blowing straight north and is a bit of cross wind as well, I would probably adjust about 5 or so yards. So it really plays about 100-105 yards. This is what golfers and their caddies do in real life.

But 28 yards short. Yeah, that is totally off. Something is wrong there. Seems a bit weird for sure. That shot you took should have been a lot closer then that. I'm thinking that it may be that RNG stuff raising it's ugly head. A little bit is fine, but they went overboard with it in the 4.0 patch.

  • @agentputt Yeah I know. lol. I do the calculations and make the adjustments myself for wind & elevation, as sometimes what they give you is close, but a lot of times it is off. I currently play Pro. Trying to work myself up to Tour. But put it off for a bit because of the latest patch really screwing with the putting. I'll stick with Pro for now until that is fixed.
