I'm pretty sure they don't have them to buy as it would make it a pay-to-win type of thing. I get the frustration about the grind though. I thought I'd never get there myself. I did the challenges which will get you some vc, but I found more success with the tournaments. They have currently made the daily tournaments WAY less appealing by rotating them around and a lot of time it's not worth doing them, but the weekly and especially season tournaments are what you want. If you can do well in these and be able to do a few of them, Aracde to Tour or SIM, you can get bigger payouts. It takes a bit as you have to do all 18 holes, but worth the time if you are trying to grow your bank.

Also, don't use your VC to buy cosmetics. It will just slow you way down in getting all the right specs you want. I didn't was any VC on anything but gold specs as well. You can win some lower-level ones from some tournaments etc, but when the gold spec you've been waiting for finally comes back around, you may not have enough now having used it on other things. It's also good to know what gold specs give you the best bang for your virtual buck. Someone has created a Google sheet outlining the best for each category.
