Merge Academy - Picnic challenge

I just finished the Picnic challenge (the special one where you get the picnic basket at the end) and having had the same trouble losing energy and coins after the first challenge, I put the energy into storage until I used up the energy I have and then redeemed the pink gems and coins into my account.  After I clicked “save and exit” they were gone.  Will they come back?  I think I got 30-40 coins and two sets of the pink gems and they are all gone.  Thank you!
