That is a very good question!
So you have this already on the board
The game wants you to make another one via the yarn & wheel merging.
When you merge the newly made Spinning Wheel with the old wheel...
With most of the generators we start off with, you will need to upgrade them this way.
Original one on the board (merged) with a newly made one = Upgraded Generators.
The game will continue to regive you elements of each generator throughout the game as you progress.
However, from reading comments on here and on pogo, I would estimate a minimum of 40% of Pogo players do not have the sewing machine.
Not a lot of customers were placing orders for large or small wheels early in the game (elements to make another Spinning Wheel), so a majority of players deleted yarn and wheels for space or crystals or didn't make them, because there were no orders for them.
