Club & City Names (how/why?)

As it says in the title. I would like to know how or why you picked your Club or City name. I picked our club name Angry Mayors >: ( b/c at the time when it all started I was angry about not getting enough Vu Remotes. My city name I had recently read an article on the ancient city of Alexandria and how it was a major trading city with a great lighthouse on it's harbor. Please share your stories, thoughts and comments below.

    I picked Legion of the Phoenix because it is the name of a gaming group I founded in 1980 and is still going strong. The real world group has met at my house for 37 years and has had online chapters in several games. One other member of the founding group is playing and is a member of the mayors club.

  • Hi Arclight,

    As I shared with you offline, I think this is a great and positive topic and I applaud you. As promised my city’s name is Pinnacle Valley and it’s my feeble attempt at an oxymoron. There is an interesting story behind Pinnacle, when I was a freshman in high school a local sports writer wrote my play in the state playoffs was the pinnacle of performances (guess he was working on his Pulitzer) and unfortunately it stuck, but more as a term of resentment from some of the upperclassmen I was playing in front of. Fortunately a great friend (much wiser than I) told me to own it and started calling me Pin.It worked and to this day some of my oldest friends (and newest) call me Pin. Our mayors club (B.’s Neighbors) is named as a loving tribute to our late President. B. was a wonderful lady from Oklahoma who treated everyone as a back door neighbor - for folks from not around here (yes I from the South, grew up in the country and we had to pump in the sunshine) all our neighbors left there backdoors unlocked so the kids could run in and get a drink of water, visit the restroom (contingent to the calling and yes we had indoor plumbing although there were a couple of outhouses around) and if we were lucky get a homemade cookie and some fresh squeezed lemonade. At lunch we would go to the closest house and eat - it was great. Only thing we had to worry about was not getting bit by a snake or eaten by a bear - only lost one to the bear (here’s a tip - you don’t have to outrun a bear just your neighbor)  - if you smiled just a little that’s what B. did for us each and every day - a stranger from across the country that could make you laugh until you cried and meant so much to so many. Sorry for the length.

    @DaveMunter

    Very Good to hear that your old crew has remained close throughout these past few decades as that is quite an achievement. Any big plans for the 40 year? Party at your place with enough fireworks to be seen for miles? BOOM!

    @PinnacleValley

    Ahh yes not only great offline PM conversations but a man of your word too! Sorry for the length of the post? Like any good classic story it starts with a once upon a time, has a good moral building center and a satisfying lesson learned ending. I found it to be enjoyable and memories of times long since past for me but still oh so very near! "All our memories keep you near. In silent moments I imagine you here." Within Temptation - Memories

    A good memory I can think of would be that my uncles (good ole uncle Bob) black lab dog Cinder would run up to my grand parents house and we would grab one of the many bikes and ride it through the back forest tractor paths with Cinder right beside us. Stop by the tree house and have a few stick fights. Finally continue on to my aunt and uncles back yard which had a walk out slider and drop the bikes. Make our way up the stairs in a frenzy and there would be always fresh baked cookies on the weekends among other junk food.

    One more short one would be when my sister and I were out on the far side of my grandparents house picking black berries and I half stepped on a black and yellow stripped snake! You can bet I ran for the hills!... well the safety of grandpa and grandmas house. Another quick one was when out back of the house grandpa had me pound out some nails out of a board. I set it on a bench that well... had a bees next under it and started pounding with a hammer. I will let your imagination do the rest. Good luck out running those! haha!

    Anyone else? I look forward to each and everyone's response great or small in content.

    I discovered when at war opponents tend to attack cities with a certain name keep attacking it never  ever got attacked until I changed my city name, now I get to attack all the time then for an experiment I changed it back if my theory proved correct, I never got attacked only at the end with a shrink ray. So I put it back to the war name and sure enough, my city was attacked again many times. So now I have kept that name with my name at the end as it works a treat if got your name linked at the end of it. Can guarantee more attacks not saying what it is just in case other decide to use it
