Winning is all a matter of perspective.

Yes, you are correct.  Different people get different assignments and as such it's not entirely a fair playing field.  At least the best that I can tell....  The highest for a single assignment that I've heard about is 3000, although I've never seen it.  I had a 2500 one time this time around, but the first week I didn't see anything near that high.  Most things were 1500 and under.

Now, as far as that perspective I was talking about.  I've seen someone else post a picture of their standings and the highest person (the #1 spot) was only around 6500.  In mine this week, the highest person got 16,900, the 5th spot was 12980.  I ended in 14th at 10450 and advanced to Suburban League with a Big Prize.  Did I win?  I certainly think so.  That's 2 keys and 10,000 simoleans I would not have had otherwise.  To me, I won.  I don't need that #1 spot, although, if I were in that other group, I would have had the #1 spot.  Does it bother me that someone with 6500 got the top spot while I got 10450 and was 14th?  Not in the least.  I really don't care.  A Mayor's contest, to me, is a side quest to playing the game and doesn't really matter other than what keys I can gain since they're so rare.  I got 2 keys, so I won.  It's all a matter of perspective.

The playing field should be level offering same offered scores to all players attending!

this game hosts dishonorable tasks that are not honorable scores compared to the other players who may have been give the high ground.

if you finish first and picked high scoring tasks, it should have been respectable and assumed that all other players were working on the same tasks, but this is not so!

i got promoted and was still on top but there is no honor or glory in the game, victory is shallow here because if you got a high scoring task offered then it doesn't matter if you had the time, skill and speed tokens because some other player is already working on a task that was of a higher level....

i can can confirm that all my tasks offered were the highest scoring as far as I know so players here get punked!

I agree.  This isn't a level playing field.  The leagues are not designed as we were told they would be in the FAQ.  Kind of takes all the fun out of the contest if you have no chance at all of winning even one Platinum key.

I don't even care about the Platinum keys right now.  I just want to earn more gold keys so I can get my specializations up to where they need to be to get cheetah in other areas besides the beach.

I ended up just barely above the to be advanced line with a day and a half to go.  So I most likely will be overtaken by someone...  Darn it!

This contest has been interesting for me. The first 10 assignments I completed were all unleash disasters / earn gold keys / upgrade zones. In all, I completed 22 assignments and cancelled 2. Of those 22, three gave me 4000 points each (earn gold keys) and 3 gave me 3000 points (unleash disasters). Other assignments were in the 1200 - 2400 range. I only did 3 produce and collect assignments, and they were overnight. I just got a lot of high point, quick assignments.

I got to first place relatively early with 42210 points, though I might not stay there. It's the town league, my first shot at platinum keys. Since I'm at level 23, it's all just fun stuff. Mostly I'll be glad to get the simoleons, but the royal garden is pretty nice looking. If I ever get to build an airport and have Parisian / London neighborhoods, those gardens will look nice.

This entire Contest of Mayors thing is so disheartening. The entire drawcard is to earn platinum keys to add some really interesting buildings/items to your city. Everybody wants platinum keys. However all of the scoring and assignments are so random. You have the 'choice' of 8 assignments. But realistically 6 of these 8 are unplayable because they score so low.

In order to have any chance at all you have to do the maximum points available tasks. If you dont, somebody else will and spend the money and complete the tasks - no problems here, congrats EA on finding a way to get us to spend money. However, even if you do the maximum point scoring tasks, because it is random, you can end up with only low scoring options, and miles away from Platinum keys.

I want Platinum keys, but there is literally no way for me to get any. At All. I have done countless London upgrades, disasters and deliveries - always the maximum point available assignments. However I am only on 60k - 22k behind the leader, and 8k behind the chance of even 1 platinum key. All the resources, time and effort poured into completing this weeks contest for nothing. There needs to be a way to dismiss the low scoring options, otherwise what is the point? Else there is no strategy involved here.

Platinum keys are the the 'carrot' that makes us all want to participate in this competition. But without any way to earn them, the fun is gone from this game.

Nothing official from EA, but the tasks and value are randomly assigned. Game of luck....

I've done 4 contests now, did well in the first 3, but this current one i'm 47,000 (#39), nowhere near the top10 which has almost 70,000.

I always do the highest value tasks.

EDIT: I finished in #61 place, NO PRIZE.

its really tough though. I am at lvl. 33 and have 30k> sims in my city  I have received a 3600 point assignment(complete two Tokyo order). though i had to for nearly a day. it was easy.

other easy assignments were collecting simoleons, complete cargo shipments, earn gold keys, upgrade residential buildings and so on.

But other assignments like produce 5 yogurts, 148 metal, and such other tough producing assignments.

i only managed to do 6 tasks and stack up 10800 points, coming at 43 place in the suburban league. the guy with the highest was 30253 pts.

it really sucks to see that type of big and odd number.

maybe our city"s lvl and population affects the assignments.

but i stopped playing contest of mayor till i reach lvl. 50 or something.

i really like to see "a little lesser than tough" assignments  early platinum key rewards.

League position is mostly based on luck, It's all about what tasks you get assigned, and having the time and resources to complete them.

In the 4th league (City), you have an 8 in 100 chance of winning Platinum keys. Given the fact that it's mostly luck of getting top8, on average you might have to do the league 12 times (1 in 12 chance) which is 12 weeks, just to win 1, 3 or 5 Platinum keys, and that's only once you reach the 4th league.

I'm personally not going to torment myself for such rubbish rewards. I'm boycotting League until something gets done about it, and I strongly advise everyone else to follow suit so they hear us loud and clear.

I'm not happy about coming 61st and being 33% short of placing in the top10. I know I put in just as much time and effort as everyone else did, and yet only a select few were lucky enough to get get promoted or get a reward (I got nothing, not even 1 token or simoleon).

I put the entire game on hold for 5 days for the League, plus a lot of pre-planning prior to the contest start. If I didn't do the League, I would have made 500,000 simoleons selling in Trade HQ, plus plenty of keys/items from airport/cargo (however I don't do that, I have so many already). I don't even have much use for simoleons other than completing more epic projects, but I already have 60. So what's left for me? Platinum keys. But there's such a slim chance and so much luck involved just to win 1.
