It would work. I think if they did implement a 'dismantle' option, I'd imagine you wouldn't get all the Materials that were used to make Item. However, it should give Material(s) that made the Item.
For something that's 'kinda useful', it should have a reasonable cooldown period. Let's face it, it won't be a game changer, but it I think it has a place in the game.

It’s 2024 and I just stumbled upon your thread from 2017 regarding a recycling center. I was just about to send EA a feature request memo for the same exact idea, so I am bumping this to see if EA will respond to consider this option.
Returning manufacturered goods back into their raw materials would add a significant boost to SCBI. There could be certain incentives or roadblocks that would help illustrate the idea that recycling is helpful and needed, but it has to be efficient. No sense in burning fossil fuels or massive energy consumption just to produce rolls of tissue paper or paper boxes (real life anecdote obviously)…so hopefully developing this model will be more thoughtful than the mass transit/trains feature.
