Feedback and suggestions for SimCity BuildIt

After playing the game for some time, I have found myself enjoying a lot of aspects of SimCity BuildIt. I might even say I'm addicted. I have been playing and competing in the Contest of Mayors, saving my resources and I have some goals in mind, which will hopefully come to fruition after this year's Black Friday. That doesn't mean there aren't ways the game could improve. It has a good foundation, but I believe some additions and changes could improve it not just for myself, but for lots of other players. I hope that at least some of the suggestions can be taken into consideration. These are some of the things I've been noting down while playing.

  • Factory/War Delivery/Export HQ ads: It is now well known that making any in-game purchase removes factory ads permanently. I understand that this is a common practice with some games (such as subscribing to get rid of popups, specific purchases to remove ads, etc.), but I find those ads in SimCity BuildIt pretty helpful. From refreshing building upgrades to speeding up production for a batch of factory items, watching those ads might be beneficial, especially when competing in the Contest of Mayors. Maybe there could be a toggle for players who have made a purchase to let them choose whether they want to see ads?
  • Old buildings: It is not rare that I visit other cities, see some beautiful buildings, and find out that they are no longer available. They were either offered years ago in the old Contest of Mayors, or part of some offer/Event Track/Mayor's Pass that never repeated. It seems that new players miss out on a lot of things. When the SimCity Castles Event Track was made available last month, I did everything I could to complete it and collect all the castles. I even made an in-game purchase to advance in the Event Track because I ran out of assignments. I would love to see more opportunities like this since the game has such an amazing back catalog of buildings. An Event Track or some SimCash offer for old buildings every once in a while wouldn't hurt. I know I would probably pay 1,000 SimCash to get the Imperial Palace, Inca Temple, or that beautiful Maxis Man vs. Dr. Vu Set. This brings me to the next suggestion. Although this one might be a complaint too.
  • Special offers: I often have to pass on these because they cost ridiculous amounts of money. I collected all the castles from Contest of Mayors Season 1 when they were available in the Event Track, but I didn't get the Imperial Palace because it cost €18. Not Dollars, Euros. As a high-level player, I constantly get offers containing dozens of land or storage expansion items. And yes, those rare items are helpful, we always have to hunt for them. But the disparity in prices between players makes me wish we could simply have an offer for a building, without the extra stuff to bump up the price. Or, at least, make all offer tiers available so the players can choose, like those Sakura Forest sales. Maybe throw in some offers that cost SimCash instead of real money, because I always feel like I have to pass up buildings simply because I was unlucky enough to get the offers with tons of extra items.
  • Storage deed: Y'all know we would all jump at this one. We have Land, Mountain, and Beach deeds, why not add one for Storage? One Storage deed per Mayor's Pass or Blueprint Exchange would be enough. No one likes getting stuck in the Contest of Mayors simply because they have a Storage upgrade task and they have to first clear out their storage of things they prepared for the Contest, then go hunt for 75 items.
  • Building purchase confirmation: Just a few days ago, while designing my submission for the Design Challenge, I accidentally bought one of the Mountain buildings. Thinking I already owned it so it would be stored in the catalog. For 90 Platinum Keys. Luckily it carries 3 Epic Points and I happen to fancy Mountain Epic Project designs. But since we have a confirmation window for bulldozing buildings, why not add one for purchasing them too?
  • Some form of communication for non-club friends: I have someone in my friends' list who raided my depot few times. I have no idea who they are, they do not have a profile photo and I haven't used Facebook in years other than connecting my city to it. Personally, I would love to stop that player from entering my depot, because I leave items for my club members when they request them, and I cannot risk someone else getting them, especially if they are rare items.
  • Export HQ: We should not be punished with a timer just for accidentally clicking on it. If there was some popup asking us if we wish to open it and start the timer, that would be amazing. It would save many of us trouble of having to rush the Contest of Mayors and fearing the Export HQ task might come back.

These are just some of the observations I have picked up on while playing. There are probably things I have missed, which I might add here if I remember them. I hope someone working on the game sees this and thinks that these changes might be good enough to add to the game. Until then, good luck to everyone playing COM or Club Wars, and I hope y'all win!

  • Some very good suggestions there, particularly about the ads. I feel I'm penalised for having made an in-game purchase since I can't speed up my factories or war delivery.

    A few other suggestions:

    • An "Are You Sure?" button when starting a new war. It is far too easy to start a war by mistake.  If you are lucky, and are not matched immediately, you sometimes get the option to cancel the request, but not always.

    • In the Global Trade HQ, an indication of how many items you already own. When browsing through the Trade HQ you see some items you know are rarely advertised, but can't remember how many of them you already have.  Some indication would be helpful.

    • The ability to cancel advertising something for sale without deleting it.  When advertising something in your own trade depot, sometimes it would be useful to be able to stop advertising it (perhaps when you want to make something else available for club members at a reduced price, but are worried other players will take it because they have come to buy the advertised item).  The only way to do so at the moment is to use SimCash to delete the advertised item from sale altogether.

    • Have a 'home' button on the Region screens to take you back to your Capitol City.  I know it is only 2 clicks to go back to you Capitol City at the moment, but a home button would make things quicker.

@FlyingFury19 Some great QoL suggestions! My team is currently stuck in a war because it started way too early because of wrong timing, and we usually start 12 hours before COM to get as much time as possible for assignments.

The ‘undo’ button for advertising is another great one that I’d love to see, since sometimes I have to be quick when trading with my club members and have accidentally posted wrong items before, including rares. And then someone else comes and takes them which is very annoying.

    Thank you for sharing!

    Hi @mate54 and @FlyingFury19,

Some solid thoughtful suggestions there. Thanks for taking the time to pop it together constructively.

Another one just came to mind since today I was rudely reminded that all bonus storage would be going away when the Mayor's Pass ended. LOL!

I would love to be able to sell war items in bulk. Personally, it makes no sense to me that I cannot post 5 war items in one depot slot (unlike every other item in the game), and trying to get rid of 50 Ducks and Plungers that I got from repairing would make my depot inaccessible for 2-3 days. They are not advertised on Global Trade HQ anyway, so only my Club members would be able to see them. This seems like such a pointless limitation.
