Latest update - complicated, opaque, not fun at all

We've got assignments that aren't registering progress. Ok, that's a bug, it can happen. But what about the countless other mistakes that were made with these changes? This season is a mess and I can't even fathom why anyone at EA thought this was a good idea.

We now have to buy our right to work on tasks. To earn a currency (ice creams) that no one knows how to use. I suspect it will be used to upgrade the special tower (similar to the Pyramid) - the one we can only claim if we complete this season's building collection. I.e., the tower you can only claim if you complete literally every task and event track that is thrown at us. Which means that this Mayors pass' rewards will mostly be completely useless to the overall majority of players. I hope I'm just wrong here in my assumption, but I fear I'm not.

Then there's the daily tasks stuff. We're expected to log on every day now? Same with the weekly limit to earning points - I guess there will be fewer options to do less in one week and then compensate for it in another week. Which means EA has turned the game even more into a job you have to concern yourself every day of the week with, week after week.

Why did anyone think it was a good idea to overcomplicate stuff like this? What's the point of adding confusion with more currencies, time gated conversion rates, unclear earning options/needs (no one knows how much we can collect of this stuff or how much we even need in a particular week, let alone the entire season) ...? And why did you think it was a good idea to severely punish anyone who misses out?

The only good change here is that we can now work on all weekly tasks at the same time. But even that is kind of pointless, if the rewards aren't going to be available because we're earning a currency that can't be used. I also like the weekly stores as it gives us more freedom to pick what we want and ignore the rest. But again, the benefits of this change are greatly reduced by uncertainty, by not knowing how much you'll need and how much you can earn the next week.

You're one of the biggest game developers in the world. But it seems you've completely lost sight of what a game should be. Instead of encouraging fun and joy, you've decided to bombard us with daily requirements, tasks, time-gated currencies - all of which suffer from the same opaqueness. Whatever certainty there was - an x number of buildings each season through the Mayors' Pass - has been diminished as well.

I'm reaching the point where I'll just participate in the Design Contest, as it's the only part of the game that's still about actually designing and building a city.  Now, that does mean that I want to see the game flourish, so here's a bit of advice to conclude with:

  1. If you're going to include countless currencies, at least make it clear what can be done with them: how much can we (realistically) earn, how much will you need, what will you be able to buy with them not just this week, but also next?
  2. Remove the daily tasks. Just make them into bonus weekly tasks or something.
  3. Give everyone access to the City Album's ultimate building - like you did with the Pyramid (IF that's what's going to take this season's currency, the ice creams).
