Request: More variety of roads
I was thinking that it would be much better to have a greater variety of roads.
For example, dirt roads would work great with Old Town Buildings. Roads where drivers drive on the left would be great for London zones. Cobblestone roads would be great for Latin America zones.
It would also be cool to have one-way streets of various lane counts, streets with shoulders that cars can park on, and multi-lane highways with exit ramps. Having this variety would make it much more realistic to a real city. Having roads with natural curves would also be a great improvement (currently all curves are nearly 90 degree sharp turns and having a diagonal road would require an unrealistic zigzag road) - having more variety in turn angles, intersections that don't form perfect right angles, and roundabouts would add much more variety that would make the game more realistic.
It would be great if there can be turn lanes and stop signs (instead of every single intersection having a traffic light). I also find it unusual that on roads with 4 or more lanes, nobody ever changes their lane, even when traffic is far worse in one lane than the other (which isn't very realistic). It's also unrealistic for a car to make a right turn from the left lane or a left turn from the right lane or turn into a driveway or parking lot from a lane that isn't the right lane.
Having a small revenue stream from roads would be great since they cost so much to upgrade - for example, police cars can occasionally pull cars over and give them tickets. When observing intersections, it isn't uncommon for cars to run red lights; maybe there can be red light cameras. Working off of a previous suggestion of mine, roads can have parking meters. And taking inspiration from another thread, we can have toll booths.
I would also love to see gas stations available to place anywhere. There's already some for Cactus Canyon but they can't be placed anywhere outside of Cactus Canyon. One of my biggest questions since I started playing is where people get fuel for their cars; I can't imagine any real-world city not having a single gas station.
Another suggestion is for some bridges to accommodate the same number of lanes of traffic as the roads connected to them. Some bridges can only be 2 lanes, but others can accommodate up to 4 (at least), however the cars simply merge into one lane in each direction regardless of how many lanes the bridge actually can fit.
