SimCity forgot its roots and gone to war

Being a long time fan of SimCity I have seen the game evolving over time.

Building your city, expanding your area and an oportunity to win some oneoff buildings in competition with other Mayors.

Then came the war!

I grab the opportunity with some fellow Mayors and created a new club, focusing in this new challenge.

At first I found og fun, but war is so timeconsuming and expensive, that I "forgot" to evolve my city. After a year with nonstop war, I broke out from my own club and joined a non war club. I wanted to go back to creating instead of destroying focusing in Mayors.

Peace at last......

But now it seems like EA wants to force med into war, like og or not. So many warrelated assignments in Mayors that I have no chance of a desent result in Mayors, unless I fall back to war again. I DONT WANT TO!

Notting wrong in trying to evolve the game, but SimCity is changing from a creating game, to a destroying game. It forgot its roots.....

Its a shame.

Please give us passifists an opportunity to participate in Mayors without the warchallendge!

  • I completely agree that SimCity has lost its identity.  It is trying to be a war game but there are so many better war games out there.  What made us fall in love with this game in the first place was the painstaking construction of a beautiful city, not the wars.

this massive increase in war tasks during contest of mayors is not just hitting the pacifists, it also affects those who do wars ... we war once a week.  We also get far too many war tasks and, when not at war, they can’t be done.  Note that going to war is a club decision not one for individuals to take so you can’t unilaterally decide to do it (even as a VP).

Since the recent upgrade, our club has lost three members who have got fed up and even I (level 90 city) am beginning to lose interest.  These changes are not encouraging more people to do wars, they are encouraging more people to leave.  In the App Store, when I got sim city it had a rating of 4.6; it is not 3.8 and falling.  I bet the recent changes have only marginally increased the number of wars per week (some will have given in) but the CoM points scored will be down, the number of players will be down and other measures also trending the wrong way.

the makers need to make wars an optional extra: take the war tasks out of CoM, ideally altogether but worst case when a city is not at war.

carry on like this and I will be stopping 0laying too.

hello @Moirty  i agree. i have not done no wars and recently joined a club who does not do no wars. coincidentally i sent a help form to ea support to look into my tasks with war and vu disaster tasks being assigned because i am not able to do either one. did you happen to send a support ticket? if my support ticket is reviewed i could share my good experience. have good day.

@Dunsnoozin  you made better points than i did and will give you xp. i agree that there are several other games that are simply war focused. i too have been playing simcity buildit when it first was introduced. the programmers may have thought that disasters and wars would be good but now it is actually making alot of people quit. the disasters and wars should be an option including to leave it out of COM. we can only hope others would agree. fighting the cheaters is a whole challenge in itself. frown.

  • I'm not so sure about forgetting its roots.  I've got a copy of the original SimCity, and lo and behold there were already disasters.  I didn't like those either, and just ignored them.

But you can't really do CoM without Vu, or war, which is a real pity.

I have been a soldier.  To me war is not a game, it is not fun, and it has no glory.  It's what nations do when their diplomats and politicians don't, won't or can't do their jobs.

I have been drawn to these games because I like to build stuff.  If I could just do that, I might even spend some real money on it.  But as it is, not a chance.

@HellsUtopia Gave me an idea 🙂
Maybe moderators should create tasks focusing on helping other Mayors. Send needed items or such.
  • @Moirty completely agree. I play this to get away from war and combat games, I have Call of Duty and other games for that stuff, games that were intended for and designed to be combat games. EA just need to get rid the stupid war garbage entirely form the game. I've spent money on the game to have a better experience but it's going to be wasted if I drop the game.

@HellsUtopia Yes the original games had disasters but there was an option in the settings to opt out off them. Which is the same here I guess except in the assignments.
  • I've found if I take a assignment and finish it straight away (delete it)I'm getting less of them come back the algorithm seems to learn what you want. I haven't been playing for long but I only trash about 4 assignments a week.
