Hi @cececole,
You're able to save your city and its progress by linking it to your Facebook/Google Play/Game Center account. Once you've completed the tutorial you will have the option available to link your account. You can do this by clicking on the screwdriver and wrench icon and selecting Game Center/Google Play or Log in with Facebook.
For the issue with the white screen caused by watching the video, I can suggest the following:
1) Clear the browser cache on your device. If you're not sure how, here's are some useful articles that covers the main browsers used on:
-Android devices: (Link)
-iOS devices: (Link)
-Amazon devices: (Link)
2) After clearing your cache, reboot your device (ie turn it off then turn it on again!)
3) Also, check to see if you have any Operating System updates for your phone. The exact steps can vary from device to device, but generally it's a case of checking your menus:
Settings > About Phone > System Update or Settings > General > Software Updates > Install Now
If you are running any 'optimization' type apps on your device -- those that claim to save battery or 'speed up' your device by clearing temporary caches and/or killing unnecessary background apps -- please ensure you exclude SimCity BuildIt from their lists. The game is designed to store temporary data on your device specifically to ensure the smooth-running of the game, and any abrupt closures from external apps can result in minor loss of progress in your city or other strange behaviours.

I have experienced this problem of not being able to return to my city after watching a prize video (where you can win golden keys etc.). Normally when the video demo game has ended I click on the X icon to go back to my city, but yesterday I just got a white blank screen. DO NOT PANIC IF YOU HAVE CONNECTED YOUR CITY WITH FACEBOOK! The way I recovered my city was by uninstalling it on my Kindle Fire, and then installing a new SimCity Buildit game. Follow through the tutorial until you come to the stage of naming your new city. After doing that, you will see the option of logging in to Facebook, and this will bring up the name and data of your previous (lost) city that was connected with Facebook. Click continue to access your lost city and you are immediately back in to it.
I hope this will help those who feared their city had disappeared down a black hole as it is so soul destroying for a city you worked hard to develop (and as in my case used your own money to buy Sim cash), to then disappear.
