I had the same issue on my Ipad Air 2 from 2017. At some point, crashes were happening too frequently and I decided to buy a new iPad Pro in July. Since then, the game has worked flawlessly, though recently it sometimes crashes.
@EA: Semi-Optimal "Bugfix" : Buy new Hardware and everything is going (maybe) ok ;-)
