NAT Settings
If you are experiencing an issue where you cannot play with your friends and you get the following error message: 'Game Session no longer exists', please check the NAT settings.
Checking NAT Settings |
First you need to identify your NAT Type.
You can find out by testing your connection, the system will then tell you what NAT setting is currently in use.
- Xbox Users: System settings > Network Settings > Select wired or Wireless Network > Test Xbox live Connection
OPEN NAT
MODERATE NAT
STRICT NAT
With an OPEN NAT type, you’re able to play and host multiplayer games with people who have any NAT type on their network.
With a MODERATE NAT type, you’re able to play multiplayer games with some people; however, you might not be able to play with others, and normally you won’t be chosen as the host of a match.
With a STRICT NAT type, you’re only able to play multiplayer games with people who have an OPEN NAT type. You can’t be chosen as the host of a match.
- PS3 Users: Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test

Connected to the Internet via a router.
With type 3, it may not be possible to communicate with other PS3™ systems, and voice / video chat and the communication features of games may be restricted. In this case, see [Connecting to PSNSM] in this guide.
That being said, you will not be able to change this setting via your console.
If your NAT type is “Moderate” or “Strict”, you'll have to open NAT via your Router configuration page.
In the Router configuration page:
Make sure you have the following ports open:
Turn on Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) for your router: Enable Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP, on your router.
Finally restart your console.
