Abduction only works if there's only one sim on the lot. The error I got using testingcheats was related to Lazlo, not Vidcund. I was able to get a successful abduction when I only had one sim in the household and when all but one sim was at work/school.
Well, that's not ideal, but good to know as a workaround.
