Try playing in offline mode, the crashing up to yesterday ( haven't turned on pc today) I just opened task manager to kill all EA programs. Top left of EA app you'll see 3 little bars select it and go into offline mode, try and launch from pressing the little blue play button in offline mode, if it don't launch go to your MyDocuments/EA/Sims2 Legacy folder and remove Accessory and Groups folders. Try and launch again.
I had no crashing EXCEPT if I used the 3x speed button so I'm trying to not use it.
