Sims 2 Legacy - University Issues

I've run into a few different issues while trying to send my sims to university in the new release of Sims 2. They can't claim doors in a dorm and they can't complete their final exams. When the time comes for the final exam, the sim goes to the exam, but seemingly leaves before it's over. Then you get a notification that your sim missed their exam, but the semester never concludes and it's just a constant loop. Basically has made the game unplayable from this point forward - I can't even seem to get out of it if you use the Semester Tester, since that requires your sim to go to the final exam to graduate. Very disappointing.
