misstwig Rambley_Raccoon madsgarrett25 Please let me know whether your Sims 2 user folder (Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Legacy) is on OneDrive and if missing Sims still appear in other Sims' memories, or if they had been replaced with $Subject. Also check if there is an antivirus that could be flagging the game and preventing it from from creating new character files.
Onedrive isn't turned on for me and my antivirus shows no history of flagging the game. I did go back in my game and saw that when I am loading the household, the two toddlers do show in the loading screen, but they aren't actually in the game once the household is loaded. I checked memories and saw they were renamed to $Subject.
I added the Sims 2 folder to the exclusion list of my antivirus software, so hopefully that will fix it. From doing some reading, it seems that OneDrive/antivirus are the culprits. OneDrive is off for me, but I did notice that my antivirus scans all of my files and so will see if excluding the Sims 2 folder will do anything.
How did you get that set up? I use Norton (and hopefully there's nothing else here), I'll try to figure it out and see if that works too.
I use Windows Security and added the folder to exclusions under Virus & Settings > Manage Setting > Exclusions. I'm not familiar with Norton, but I found a link that is a guide for excluding items from scans: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v3672136
I have the same exact issue, and posted what happened on another post, but I wanted to ask: How do we check to see if our antivirus is flagging the game?
So what happened: I made a Sim family twice, with an adult and teenager. The first time, I reloaded into the game and the adult vanished without a trace and I had not looked into anything else in that family. The second time, same family, I reloaded into the game and the teenager vanished, but the adult had memories with the teenager still with "$Subject," to replace the name. Both time on the loading screen they were both there, but when you click on the family, there is only one sim.
It's just so frustrating😫 and hopefully the sims team fixes this asap, it seems to be happening to everyone, I see it on the steam community too. For now I guess time for the single life for my sim...
