I had lots of trouble with path finding in sims 4, way less than in sims 2.
As example, in my sims 4 legacy family, my heir (to go from his house, on the west, to the garden, in the north of his lot) would first go to the east , then go back to the west then cross the swimming pool (literally walking on the top of it) to reach the garden. Then, other family, have in their kitchen a dishwasher but would rather go to the upstairs' sink, not even a good one. I can't even make them sit together to eat --'
I think it mostly because of experience, in my experience sims' 2 AI is better than the one from sims 4. You don't have the same experience, so it's different for you.
Then, about memory, in ts4 my sims lost her mother, 2 days of crying and after it's sunshine and rainbow again. In ts2, sometime even after a long period of time, my sims were mourning the loss of his father.
