Hi Gem it's looking amazing!
That lot that you are calling either a mall or a community center, in America we call these sorts of places a "Plaza". They were very popular when I was a child in the 1970's and now are once again becoming very popular while actual malls are starting to shut down. It was the opposite in the 1980's until now. Plazas were enclosed and became malls.
But back in the 1970's and now, plazas had great appeal because they consisted of different stores and businesses with an open central relaxation area that usually had a fountain and benches. People could shop with all the convenience we now associate with malls, but could still enjoy the outdoors.
I don't know why but people got sick of that and wanted everything indoors so that is why in the 1980's they converted all the plazas into malls. I never was happy about that and I am glad that plazas are once again popular!
And that is the history of shopping in the United States. :P :mrgreen:
