I think it's a mistake. One user reported that her CC disappeared after deleting world caches on a Mac, but I think it's far more likely that she accidentally deleted the DCCache too, thus causing her CC to vanish.
Go ahead and delete it, it's just the compositor and objects cache for the world, so is fine to remove.
