Rukaya, the daycare is in the downtown area, near the edge of town. I have the EA madefamily from the library bin with all the kids living in there. When I add families when I am testing I just add the original game bin families as I know they all just have the basic stuff and usually have no problems to create other problems. But for physical testing that I do personally, then I use my own sim. I did spend 1 sims day with that family in the day care and they are not having any problems there.
Gem, you know those little cabins on the ranch where you could not move in horses because the game called it a high rise, well I had move in those two EA sim roommates there from the library bin, the male and female "friends" - well guess what when I went back to check on them they had gotten themselves a horse and a puppy. So apparently sims in them can have horses regardless of what the game told you, just you can't place a horse there, but the sim can get their own. Not sure if that helps you or not. But I did move them over to the range house next door with their "pets" and I'm going to add three singles to that lot to see if they also get horses or was that just a fluke. I want to give them horse related traits and see if that presents any problems - just for the heck of it.
I played all night last night with zero problems - about 5 hours straight - just normal play.
Summer, that thing your sim did with the ice cream I have found is normal, it seems sims want to sit while jamming the ice creams up their nose (hehe) and will go to great measures to find their perfect ice cream eating spot. It seems to vary from sim to sim as well as the location they purchase the ice cream at. They do not always pick the nearest seat either, so I just let them go where ever.
I have a suggestion, apparently your Mac is really sensitve to things not being right in the world, so try pausing the game, go into edit town and try to fix all the things you know of that is wrong with the houses, like missing paint and floating pictures. Remove those strobe lights in both the clubs too as the strobe light use a lot of memory - I firmly believe there is a leak of memory related to those light as well as the search lights. I reduced the number of search lights around the clubs and the standium, as i saw a problem with those in particular when I was beta testing Showtime that I reported on. Also in your options, go check what lighting and shadows are on - if it is on high, reduce it to medium and then hit that check mark. Now you will need to reboot as that is a major change - so save your game first at that point and quit as normal. Reboot the computer, then once you are set go back into the game and see if that doesn't help you some. Make sure if you missed any floating pictures or even floating roof tiles try and use the jack hammer and delete them.
