Have you tried renaming your "The Sims 3" folder in your Documents folder, so it will create a new one? That would at least help you to start narrowing down a problem, perhaps.
You might also post on the technical forum. People there have been very helpful for me in the past!
I've tried reinstalling and all, it's my laptop that's too weak and getting too old sadly. It's just time for a gaming rig, but that'll probably be a while.
I'll just enjoy from the outside ;) and I'm ready to step in if someone needs help in building or anything ;)
