I hope all of you aren't getting sick of Andrea and her life experiences. ;) I plan to move on to the other members of the family after this chapter.
Chapter 31
"I can't believe I gave Garrison my phone number," Andrea said to Manisha as they left the pool.
"Why not?" Manisha asked, "it's not like you've been getting any attention from Daniel lately." Then she stopped, realizing how harsh that came out. "I'm sorry," she said, placing her hand on Andrea's shoulder, "maybe...it's time to move on from him. It sure seems like he's moved on from you. You did the right thing by being honest with him. If he's not willing to appreciate that or accept you for who you are then...he's not worth your time."
As much as it pained Andrea to admit it, Manisha was right. But if all that were true...then why couldn't she get him off her mind!? No matter what she did to occupy herself, everything about Daniel would creep back in. She'd think of him as soon as she woke up in the morning and before she would fall asleep at night. It was all so complicated!

Andrea did her best to get back into studying the way she used to, but she was finding herself becoming less and less interested.

For the first time EVER, she fell asleep in class!

And she kept noticing people's relationships more often than she used to.

'Oh my,' she thought, 'I didn't know those two got together...'
It was strange, but it almost felt like...without Daniel in her life, she couldn't be happy. 'But that's crazy!' she yelled to herself in her mind, 'I was the one who told him a relationship together wouldn't work! I was supposed to be just fine with my decision and move on with life, but...why is it that I can't!? Somehow, I have to tell Daniel how I feel!' In an impulse and figuring she wouldn't be able to reach him if she called, she bore her innermost thoughts and feelings to Daniel in a text message. She prayed he would get it and...think about seeing her again.

A few days passed and still no word from Daniel. Andrea was growing very discouraged and figured it was time to take Manisha's advice and just move on now matter how difficult it would be. She figured he would disappear from her thoughts sooner or later. After all she really didn't do anything wrong!
On this Friday afternoon, Andrea received a call from a number that she didn't recognize. "Hello?"

Andrea smiled. "Hang out?" she asked.
"Well...go on a date with me?" Garrison corrected.
'It's time,' Andrea thought to herself, 'time to move on.' "Sure," she answered Garrison.
"Great! Meet me at The Point?"
'Wow!' Andrea thought. "Yeah. See you soon."

When Andrea arrived at The Point she wasn't exactly sure why Garrison would ask her out on a date to the well known make out spot in town! But one thing was for sure...she wouldn't be making out with him! They just met! It was at this point that she began to worry... 'Oh dear,' she thought, 'did I lead him on at the pool? What if he tries to ask me out? WHY else would he invite me here if he didn't plan on kissing me!? Oh gosh,' she began to panic more, "I can't do this to him! I can't have a relationship right now remember? That's what started all this drama with Daniel. However, WHY do I keep desiring to be with him? What if I only agreed to go out with Garrison so I could use him to get over Daniel? That's not fair to him! What am I doing? I'm NOT this kind of person! Ugh! What's WRONG with me!?" Immediately she felt her stomach churning, tears welled up in her eyes and she had no control over what happened next.

Trying to catch her breath and wiping at her mouth with the bottom of her shirt, Andrea quickly looked over her right shoulder and then over her left to see if Garrison had showed up. Fortunately, not yet. Letting out a breath of relief, she stood herself up, cleared her throat, wiped away the tears that had fallen down her cheeks and tried to pull herself together. 'We're friends,' she thought to herself, 'just have a fun night out with a FRIEND.'
Once Garrison finally showed up he apologized for being late.
"Roommate crisis," he said to her.
"Oh yeah? Now you've got me curious," Andrea said with a grin. So Garrison told her the whole long story. They got a few laughs out of it. "See, this is one of the many reasons why I live alone," Andrea said.
Stopping for a moment Garrison asked, "Alone?"
"Yeah...I don't feel comfortable being around a lot of people. I'm somewhat of a loner. My first year here I lived in the dorms and it was a little too much for me. This year I got my own place and it's been really nice."
Garrison raised his eyebrow, "A loner huh? Didn't you say you're studying medicine? Isn't that the wrong line of work for a loner?" He winked.
"I know, I know," Andrea said, "But...ever since I was very young, watching my dad being the amazing doctor that he is and how he helped out so many people...I had this desire to help people too. He's always been my role model." She glanced away from Garrison with a smile. "I don't know who I'd be without him."
Smiling as well, Garrison said, "That's awesome."
For a while they stood by the bonfire, that some other students had started, talking and getting to know each other better. Andrea felt relieved that he didn't appear to have a hankering to kiss her. Sure there might have been some slight flirting, but overall...nothing too serious. For fun, she decided to issue him a Trivia Challenge. He seemed smart enough and she was getting pretty good at it.

"Nice!" Andrea cried. "I think you're the first person who's ever beaten me!"
"Well," Garrison said, inching closer and gazing into her eyes, "I'm happy I made an impression."
Andrea blushed as they stared at each other for a moment.
Nothing else, romantically, happened between the two of them that night. Just two friends enjoying each other's company. Andrea liked that and she was finding more and more how wonderful it is to get out of her comfort zone and make new friends.

A few more days passed and Andrea was beginning to get back into her old, die hard studying habits. Stephen even sent her a text message saying, "Welcome back brainiac!" Andrea rolled her eyes chuckling. 'Is he WATCHING me all the time or what?' she thought.
For the first time in a couple of months Andrea and her girlfriends had a girls night out at her place. Ariane seemed to be doing a lot of the talking.

"My future home will have AT LEAST 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms! I won't settle for less!"
They all had an enjoyable time, laughing, gossiping, joking, eating junk food...but Manisha and Abigail had to bail out early to study for a test in the morning. Andrea and Ariane spent the rest of the evening flipping channels on the TV.

"Seriously!? Those images were taken by a PROFESSIONAL photographer!?" Ariane said in shock, "they were HORRIBLE!"
"Totally!" Andrea agreed.
"If I were that bride I would DEMAND a refund on those wedding photos!"
Then they switched the channel to Game Show Network and Family Feud was on. The host asked the question: Name a word a judge might yell out during a tennis match.

"I got nothing," Ariane said.
"It sure is a tough one," Andrea said scratching her chin.
"I take it you've never played tennis?"
"Nope."
"Me neither."

The next morning, Andrea took one heck of a LONG hike!

"YES!" She cheered. "I made it! This view is AMAZING!"
That afternoon, Garrison popped on over to her house and once he heard the music she had turned on he broke out some rather interesting dance moves. Andrea couldn't remember laughing so hard in a LONG time and she had to join in.

After that he asked her if she would like to go see a movie with him and she accepted. There were a couple of times that Andrea could sense Garrison reaching over to hold her hand, but...she purposely moved it away. 'Why?' she would ask herself, but she already knew the answer. She had to talk to Garrison about it soon.
With midterms coming up, she needed to be able to concentrate on studying so she couldn't hold in her mind controlling thoughts any longer. After the movie ended, the two had barely walked out of the theater when Andrea said, "Garrison...we need to talk." To get some privacy, she led him toward the empty lot next to the place.
"What is it?" Garrison asked her curiously.
Growing nervous, but trying to be strong Andrea clasped her hands below her waist and said, "Garrison...I've had so much fun getting to know you. You're a really great guy."
Garrison smiled, but it didn't last long.
"But there's something I need to tell you," Andrea continued. She bit her bottom lip for a moment and HATED to do this but..."There's someone else," she said. She desperately felt like closing her eyes so she didn't have to see his face expression.
Taken aback, Garrison's eyebrows raised. "Oh?"
"I'm so sorry!" Andrea said, inching closer to him and finding herself taking his hands. "He was...almost my boyfriend. When things started getting serious between us I told him that...us being together wouldn't work, what with my future job demanding all my time. Heck, medical school has been taking up all my time I've hardly been able to hang out with my friends or call my family back at home."
Garrison lowered his head.
Andrea continued. "So...I really hurt his feelings and...we haven't been in touch since. I was so sure I made the right decision. So sure that I would be feeling perfectly fine the next day and able to move on, but...I didn't. I just haven't been able to get him off my mind!"
Looking up at her, Garrison still didn't say anything.
"I have to make things right with him again. It pains me that I hurt him and Garrison, I don't want to hurt you either! It wouldn't be fair to you for me to lead you on or be your girlfriend when...my heart clearly belongs to someone else. I can't do that," she said with a choke. The tears were welling up in her eyes. "You're too good of a man for that. You should be with someone who can give their whole heart to you!" Lowering her head to hide her tears she said lastly, "I wish I could!"
There was a moment of silence between the two, until Andrea felt Garrison gently lifting her chin up with his finger. Staring deeply into his eyes in surprise over his gentle gesture she heard him say, "I appreciate your honesty Andrea. Thank you." Then he gave her a hug.

"Not many women are like you in that respect," he said while still holding her, "that makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye."
Sniffing Andrea said, "I know! I wish it were different but...I have to be true to my heart. I have to see if we're still meant to be together."
Letting go of her Garrison sighed and said, "Well, if not...you know where to find me."
Andrea nodded.

When midterms were over, there was that usual final party at the Frat House before everyone went home on break. Andrea couldn't help going, it was a nice way to chat with and say goodbye to everyone for a time. 'It should be enjoyable, as long as I don't drink!' she reminded herself. This party had the biggest turnout that she could remember. It felt like the whole student body was there! After a few minutes the crowds of people were really making her feel uncomfortable so she darted out into the backyard for some fresh air. 'Whew,' she thought, holding her hand to her heart and literally trying to catch her breath, 'that's MUCH better!' There was a bonfire burning strong out back and she made her way toward it. Holding her hands out to warm herself and then picking up a sliver of grass to throw in, her thoughts once again turned to Daniel. With a sad sigh she whispered, "Oh Daniel...will I ever be able to make things right with you again?"
"I got your text message."
Andrea's head shot up at the sound of that voice. It came from the other side of the bonfire. "Daniel!?"

When the figure stepped to the side of the flames so she could see him, Andrea held her hand to her mouth.
"It was the most beautiful thing any girl has ever written to me," Daniel said.
Feeling overcome with a surge of intense emotions, Andrea bolted towards him, pressed his body against hers and kissed him.

They made out for well over a minute, until Daniel removed his lips from her and said, "Andrea I am so sorry! It took me FOREVER to talk to you again. I meant to much earlier, but...more drama went on with my family and," he paused, "gosh it made me realize just how much I miss you!"

Smiling brightly than ever before, Andrea said, "I forgive you! I missed you SO much too Daniel!"
Daniel pressed his nose against hers and said, "Andrea if you'll let me, I promise I will be there for you through thick and thin. No matter how crazy life gets, no matter how often we won't see each other because of residency and your career, we'll get through it together!"
"YES!" Andrea cried and kissed him again.

For her first kiss it was pretty darn amazing. This was the happiest night of her entire life! She never thought she would care for someone so much and fall in love, but she did and she thanked God for it. The future looked brighter than ever before tonight. <3

Daniel pressed his nose against hers and said, "Andrea if you'll let me, I promise I will be there for you through thick and thin. No matter how crazy life gets, no matter how often we won't see each other because of residency and your career, we'll get through it together!"
"YES!" Andrea cried and kissed him again.

For her first kiss it was pretty darn amazing. This was the happiest night of her entire life! She never thought she would care for someone so much and fall in love, but she did and she thanked God for it. The future looked brighter than ever before tonight. <3
