Chapter 32
Meanwhile, back in Twinbrook during Andrea's year adventure in college, the many members of the Holland family continued to have adventures of their own.
Michael and Jenni, Michael especially, were really starting to feel old since Tristan is now a Senior in high school, Sue is a Sophomore and Ken is in his last year of grade school! Because of Michael's influence and that the kids were now old enough that she didn't need to be a stay at home mom, Jenni was thinking of going back to school to become a Nurse and work alongside her husband until he retired. Maybe Andrea would work closely with them too. The thought of it sounded like so much fun!
Derrick and Jade continued trying different methods and medications to have a child of their own, but to no avail. Their infertility was difficult to accept at first, but after looking more and more into adoption they have become hopeful and happy again. Derrick still holds his rank as a Firefighter Captain and when he's not out extinguishing large fires he's having tons of adventures in his time machine! Jade has even joined him on a couple of occasions. At first she was concerned about altering the timelines going back in time, but the Keeper of Time appears before them to stop them if they are close to jeopardizing their future. It's pretty awesome. Who would've thought that TIME TRAVEL could really be possible!?
Tay and Molly were still as happy as an engaged couple usually is, finding more joy everyday through their son Shawn. He is three years old now! Tay just finished his first year at college and has been debating between a few different career paths to follow. He is finding it hard to wait for the day when the three of them can become a family and live in their own place together, but he keeps on persevering. Molly and Michael have been so proud of him! He still hasn't been contacted by his parents...and rarely Molly would run into them in town, but they would just stick up their nose at her, and also Shawn if she had him, and walk off. It's become HIGHLY unlikely that Molly would ever associate with her future in-laws again.
Tristan and Emerald have stayed together throughout the past school year and have been named the school's cutest couple. Often the two would hear rumors flying around town about how their future is already made up for them, since their siblings married each other and that would just make them smile. They never had a problem with that possibility. In fact...the discussion of marriage after high school crept into their conversations all the time. Derrick and Jade couldn't be more proud, as well as their parents!
Sue and Jarrett continued as boyfriend and girlfriend too until near the end of the school year when Jarrett revealed to her that sadly his family would be leaving Twinbrook, due to his dad finding a better paying job. It was the hardest moment of Sue's life...she felt like her world had ended. Jarrett also said that since long distance relationships don't really work out, he suggested they break up. Talk about a major knife to the heart! Sue cried and tried fighting for their relationship saying, "We won't be like all the rest! We can make it work out!"
"Even when I will be living across the country and probably won't ever see you again?" Jarrett said.
"YES!"
Jarrett hesitated. "I dunno Sue," he paused, "If we can't be together I just...don't know how we could make a romantic relationship work. I still have one year left of high school. I'm sorry...but I think it's for the best."
Then Sue begged and pleaded with Jarrett that they at least stay in touch as friends and he happily agreed, but she got the feeling he wouldn't contact her very much. Heartbroken Sue struggled to get her life back on track and has become more rebellious and defiant that Michael and Jenni can't seem to get through to her with ANYTHING!
Ken has become quite the young fisherman and earning badges left and right in the Boy Scouts. He's also been doing well in school and despite everyone else in his family, he really wasn't interested in anyone of the opposite sex. He's still a kid after all.
The biggest events that happened in this last year were with Bailey and Goodwin. It all started with the family, especially Jenni and Sue, trying to accept Goodwin into their lives (again). He knew the day would come that he would have to make things right with his ex-girlfriend and daughter and he couldn't help but think about how his relationship with Bailey was just the thing to help to make that happen.
The day he finally decided to first talk with Jenni, was one he would never forget. In a good way. It was in the evening, after he finished his policing shift, that he bravely ascended the Holland Family household stairs toward the front door. It was as if Jenni was expecting him because she answered the door rather quickly and as a courtesy, shook his hand.

"Hello Goodwin," she greeted with a slight smile.
"Hi Jenni," Goodwin said back. He gulped lightly.
"Please, come in."
As they entered the house, Goodwin followed Jenni to the dining room where he figured they would have the most privacy since everyone else was in the living room or asleep. There was an awkward silence between the two for a minute and Goodwin, rocking on his heels decided to break it by saying, "So...uh...Hey Jenni."
With a grin, Jenni echoed him. "Hey."
"How are you?"
"I'm great," she replied honestly, "and you?"
"Same here."
'Well he better be!' Jenni thought, 'with him dating someone as wonderful as my step-daughter!' "How's Sinbad?" she casually asked.
"Oh...him. Actually, you probably won't believe this, but...I kicked him out."
Jenni gaped. "Oh my gosh really!?"
"Heck yeah! We've grown farther and farther apart and I got sick of him arguing with me over the most ridiculous things. I mean, we are adults now! The guy just refuses to grow up!"
http://s20.postimg.org/vebqmng25/so_I_finally_kicked_sinbad_out.jpg
Jenni chuckled, "Yeah...that's always been Sinbad."
"And plus," Goodwin continued, "with a baby on the way and...me wanting to have a wonderful future with him or her and Bailey, I couldn't have Sinbad hanging around."
"No," Jenni agreed.
"It's just," he sighed, "time to move on with my life." Then he paused, looking straight into Jenni's eyes. "Time to make things right."
Jenni nodded.
Licking his lips and looking down at the floor, Goodwin began, "Jenni...I know that the news of me and Bailey dating and...me getting her pregnant has not been an easy thing for you and Sue to accept...which I don't blame you in the least, but," he paused, "I've changed Jenni," He said, finally meeting her eyes again. "I'm not the selfish and uncommitted guy I used to be."
Jenni placed her hand on his shoulder with a smile and said, "I know Goodwin. I've sensed that from you."
"Really?" Goodwin asked in surprise. She'd never know just how good it felt for him to hear her say that!
"Yes."
Now came the hard part, but Jenni made it easier for him. "I'm sorry I hurt you Jenni," he said sincerely, "if I could go back and change things I would."
http://s20.postimg.org/ubsdcmih9/Awkward_moment.jpg
Feeling the tears well up in her eyes, Jenni said, "It's ok Goodwin. Really," she reassured. "God made everything work out for the best and I'm very happy."
"I'm happy that you're happy. How's Sue?"
Sighing, Jenni said, "She's struggling right now. I'm sure that if you made a sincere effort to be a part of her life again, that will mean a lot to her."
"Oh I will!" Goodwin piped up. "I won't let her down again!"
http://s20.postimg.org/cpki7uadp/chat_with_Jenni.jpg
"Thank you," Jenni said smiling. Then she clasped her hands together. "Well, it appears you have much to do with a baby coming in a few months."
Nodding, Goodwin said, "That I do!" He was happy to receive some tips and advice from Jenni on how to do that.
****************
In the coming weeks, Goodwin spent most of his life savings remodeling his old home and preparing it for his future family. Bailey thought it was the sweetest thing and was very impressed with his handiness skills!
He started by repainting the outside of the home to update it a little and lay down some concrete to create another spot for Bailey to park her car.
http://s20.postimg.org/b9dl3fwul/Goodwin_redecorates_house.jpg
Then he got to work on the interior, redoing the bathroom, putting a wall up in Sinbad's LARGE former bedroom to create two bedrooms and repainting and redecorating his own room to be more fit for a lady.
http://s20.postimg.org/hxa6q1gct/Goodwin_redecorates_house_2.jpg
When it was all done, he looked on the home with pride and thought, "That should do it. I can't WAIT for the three of us to become a family!" The moment last night of him wrapping his arms around his future wife and child came into his mind.
http://s20.postimg.org/kc22agwlp/Goodwin_wrapping_arms_around_baby_belly.jpg
Yup. Goodwin was going to propose to Bailey, but there was still a couple of important things he needed to do first.
The first thing was to chat with and make sure everything was ok between him and Sue. That would be a great weight lifted off his shoulders. He was thrilled to be able to catch her at the house after school one day before she ran off somewhere. Their conversation started off awkwardly, but got a little better after he apologized to her.
"I know you won't ever consider me your father," he said, "but if you'll let me...I'd love to be your Brother-in-law. I hope we can be friends."
http://s20.postimg.org/h2s8hqxvx/nice_chat_with_Sue.jpg
Sue kept her lips pursed for most of the conversation, but she said, "Sure," and added, "I'd like that."
Goodwin smiled.
They proceeded to have a nice little chat about different things going on in their lives and Sue too felt relieved to get one of her heavy burdens lifted off her shoulders.

*****************
The second, and most important, thing Goodwin needed to do was ask Michael's permission to marry his daughter. This was MUCH harder to do than asking forgiveness from Jenni and Sue! Michael didn't know it, but he intimidated Goodwin...a lot. Michael's confrontation with him years ago was still fresh in his mind. Heck, it was one of the many reasons why he decided to change his ways. Shaking his head and chuckling he thought, 'God you sure do have a sense of humor.' Then he got serious, looking up toward the heavens. 'I'm really going to need Your help with this one.'
One evening, once again, he bravely took to the steps that lead towards the Holland Family's front door.
http://s20.postimg.org/4mqxa9f65/Goodwin_approaching_Holland_door.jpg
Ken answered it and greeted Goodwin as if he were part of the family already. "What's up dude?"
"Hey Ken. I was...wanting to chat with your dad for a little bit. If that's possible right now?"
"DAD!" Ken called out, "Goodwin is here to see you." Then he invited Goodwin inside. His legs trembled a little.
When Michael appeared he smiled at Goodwin and patted Ken's back. "Thanks son," he said, "will you excuse us please?" The youngest child obeyed and skipped into the living room.
Michael held out his hand to Goodwin. "Nice to see you again Goodwin," he greeted.
'Is it really?' Goodwin thought, shaking his hand and trying hard not to show how nervous he was. "Same to you," he managed to say.
"So, what can I do for you?" Michael asked, placing his hands behind his back.
"Well, uhh...," Goodwin paused, gulping. He was having difficulty looking directly at Michael.
Noticing Goodwin's rapid breathing and slight sweat on his brow, Michael asked, "Are you alright?"
Lifting his head up, Goodwin instantly replied. "Yes! Sorry I..." he stopped. "I'm just a little nervous." He regretted admitting that.
"Why is that?" Michael asked with a chuckle.
Squeezing his eyes shut Goodwin thought to himself, 'For goodness sake! Pull yourself together! DO IT!'
"Goodwin?" Michael pressed.
Opening his eyes and looking straight into Michael's, Goodwin addressed, "Doctor Holland?"
"You know you can call me Michael."
"Yes sir I do," he said, feeling like a teenager in his speech, but he had to do this right!
Michael raised and eyebrow.
"Doctor Holland," Goodwin began again, "I humbly...ask your permission...for your daughter, Bailey's, hand in marriage."
Michael stared at him blankly and then said, "Well, that depends. Are you ever going to break her heart?"
http://s20.postimg.org/zfjn0ttl9/Goodwin_asks_Michael_for_Baileys_hand.jpg
"No!" Goodwin stressed, trying not to show his emotions.
Still being serious, Michael folded his arms and asked, "Are you wanting to marry her just because of the baby?"
"No sir! I LOVE her. I truly do!"
Michael nodded, trusting him. Little to Goodwin's knowledge.
Then Goodwin found himself clasping his hands together, nearly falling to his knees on the floor begging, "PLEASE Michael," he said. "I promise I will love and take care of your daughter and grandchild for the rest of my life! I won't let you down!"
http://s20.postimg.org/rs5xa09ot/please.jpg
Michael smiled and said, "I believe you will Goodwin. I trust you. You have my blessing."
Goodwin's eyes widened with joy! "Really!?" He cried.
http://s20.postimg.org/9qi6ygqa5/goodwin_is_thrilled.jpg
"Yes sir."
Then Goodwin shook Michael's hand vigorously. "THANK YOU Michael! Thank you!" He couldn't believe this was happening!
