Yes Happyjme, you definitely want to save at least once an hour - as that has been touchy actually since WA - then got slightly better with Ambitions, then went back to being error 12 heaven since the last EP/patch - not sure if it was the ep or the patch that borked it again.
There is no such thing as working for hours without saving much anymore. I save after every important event, as well as once an hour. When I am setting up a hood, I will actually save after working on each house and again after putting a family in a house. I honestly do not get error 12's, knock on wood, but then I learned in the beginning of sims 3 that saving frequently goes wrong in Sims 3 unless you really do it often. I also make 2 saves of every hood and periodically back them both up so if one fails I have a second one that shouldn't fail or to fall back on, because you can't always depend on the games backup file. it is not 100 percent. So if you are doing a lot of work on a particular hood - save often and back up the backup with a second "save as" copy as well.
