Can a Sim die from using the Brain Enhancement Machine?

I heard scuttlebutt that says that you can get singed from a Brain Enhancement Machine, but can your Sim die from using the Brain Enhancement machine (if you have Version 1 - the cobbled together one ...

Well...I guess the second alternative method under federal law (at least in this game is firing squad).
