Can a Sim die from using the Brain Enhancement Machine?

I heard scuttlebutt that says that you can get singed from a Brain Enhancement Machine, but can your Sim die from using the Brain Enhancement machine (if you have Version 1 - the cobbled together one ...

None of mine have ever died from it and they use it tons..just get singed occasionally.
