Thank you all so much for your help. Turns out it appears that since I hadn't played the sims 3 in about 3 years some of the nraas mods were updated and I hadn't updated them. Sigh. Still strange as for about 2 month prior to this issue, while it did crash once in a while and I did lose a couple of saves as they wouldn't load, it worked pretty ok for having those outdated nraas mods. So it didn't even occur to me it could be the issue. My son suggested I check out the mod and I saw they had some updated in 2018. I took the old out, reloaded the newer versions and so far so good.
I will keep all these suggestions in mind if I have issues in the future which knowing this game, I will. lol Thank you all again @Karritz, @Turjan
